"Ganking" now means...?

When I was a kid, ganking meant stealing something.
As a rogue I support ganking in any form.
I could be wrong I'm not specialist in these things, but when I ever hear "I got ganked" it meant beat with uneven odds. Be it level, numbers, what have you. To be "ganked" to me, means to be beaten when you have zero chance to kill the opponent, no matter how skilled you may be.
Just like 'winning' has come to mean 'take a queue or CRG invite to avoid dying.'

lol.

Sad that this is so common.

I thought ganking just meant attacked out of the blue; a cheap shot; a blow below the belt; a stab in the back; and etc.

Ya, that's how I interpret it.

A surprise kill.

Yeah, this is how I use it.

Catching someone while they're otherwise preoccupied and killing them before they're sure exactly what happened is a lot different from a duel, even though they're both 1v1 fights.
To me, ganking means the loser doesn't really have much or any chance.

The enemy is too high level.

There are too many of them.

Someone is attacked when they are near dead or are being eaten by mobs.

It now seems to mean someone lost in pvp and nothing more. Am I missing something?

Nope. You have the right meaning.

I lose in PvP all the time but get ganked very rarely.
It means Zeroden was here.

If you build it..

That reminds me. I had wondered where you went. Though with rogues and vanish it is hard to figure out before you've died while stun locked.

This is how I define ganking as well.

It is why it irritates people so. Nothing like setting it up, kiting and blowing your cooldowns to be seconds away from clearing a boss and then to catch a stab in the back.

But, it does make a PvP realm more of a PvP realm if that can happen. I've been tempted to nuke a few people when I've seen them in that situation, especially when they or their guild has done it to me. Maybe next time.

I know, if there was an achievement for it ...

But seriously, Tiraslin, I agree with you.

Now, I just need to get out there and get killed again. ;)

Judge a person by their character and their actions and not upon that of the guild. I know that there are those within the guild that I am a member of that have...annoyed some of the opposite faction. That is their deeds / sins to bear.

This is why I run Vanas KOS. Unless it pretty evident that a guild has a habit of recruiting/encouraging certain behavior in its members, I will try to dole out the harshness on an individual basis. But there are and have been a few guilds for whom it just isn't worth letting them get a first shot in, because their members will take it. In which case, it becomes more a matter of "You're hanging with the wrong crowd, son" and the tag just becomes a bullseye. Guilt by association carries a measure of validity.

That weed is not mine...and these are my bother's jeans.

QFT.
Im from the old schoool. I remember when someone would sit there waiting for you to finish fighting your mob, bandage up, then kill me or be killed. And you never camped someone you killed em twice then only if they attacked you again. Respect, pride, honor, and simple courtesy have gone the way of Plainsrunning.

Sometimes. You can still find it too.
It could also mean Darethy showed up ... OH LOOK WHO'S HERE.

Between the shoulderblades, please. Not in the face. I just had it done.

I'm sorry son, I compulsively attack peoples faces due to the lack of my own, or at least something that mortals 'qualify' as a face.

Faces are hugely overrated.

Lerossa used to do this. I miss him. :(
