High Latency / Lag Spikes. Comcast East Coast

Technical Support

This started happening about a week ago, during raids starting around 10:30pm EST I get frequent lag spikes. My game will lag for around 10 secs then latency will skyrocket. Resetting my router does not fix the problem.

I'll try getting tracert and pathping logs, but its impossible to tell when I'll have a lag spike. They can be 15-20 mins of lag free times, then I'll go nearly a full 30-40 secs of many lag spikes.

Your traces look good, Fiddlesnarf. What's the make and model of your router and modem?

I actually just got the new modem yesterday, I was due for an upgrade, so it isn't the modem's fault.
Have you tried connecting directly to the Arris Modem, just as a test?

God how I wish I could, its too far away, I'd need a 200 ft cord, which I don't have.
I did 2 more traces today at random times. I did run into a few lag spikes today, so I guess it isn't only at night.

God how I wish I could, its too far away, I'd need a 200 ft cord, which I don't have.

If you're wireless, let's make sure the N150's firmware is up to date:

http://www.belkin.com/us/support-search?search=n150

After that, I would try changing wireless modes, starting with B mode.

Says everything is up to date.
How do I change wireless modes?
The manual should be available on Belkin's support site. Which variation of the N150 do you have?

Under the router setup I see the Wireless > Channel and SSID options page, and see where I could change wireless modes, but do not see a "B" option.
Can you see the Wireless mode option, as shown here?

Ok, I did that, changed it from channel 1 to channel 11. Thanks for the help so far.
I'll bump this thread if I run into the problems again.
Well now my latency seems to fluctuate much more now. Normally it would stay between 50-55ms, now its bouncing between 55-88ms. No noticeable lag spikes yet though, doing a LFR, will see if it lags in there.
Lag spikes came back tonight, working on Heroic Jin'rokh.
Maybe it has something to so with the fight causing lag spikes?
Its not just Jin'rokh, its the entirety of Throne of Thunder, played all night, has no lag spikes, got into a LFR and within seconds had a lag spike.
Many many lag spikes during the raid, I ran a trace during raid and it came up with nothing, it showed no spikes at all.
Ok, it apparently is not just in raids, doing dailies I've had a few lag spikes. Had some Input lag too, abilities would take half-second to a full second to cast, but ingame latency doesn't rise above the high 70s.

Does this show anything? I think I caught a small lag spike.

Oh jeez I have never ever ever had a latency lower than 230 MS playing wow, ever. Anything consistently under 350ms is a good connection for me, tbh I am amazed you could even notice the difference between 55ms amd 85ms. We really must be in the dark ages in australia.

I hope you get it all sorted tho :-)
