Budd Nedreck - Slowly Recovering?

Story Forum
I'm sure you all know about Budd. Crazed, troll mask-wearing adventurer. But what you might not know if you started playing after Cataclysm was that he wasn't always like that.

He was sane, before. At the entrance of Zul'Aman with a crew of adventurers, a bunch of them trapped in the ruins. He was alot smarter back then, tricking adventurers into doing his work for him, killing the Hex Lord.

After killing Zul'jin, we got a vial of blood and brought it to him. Obviously, he was gonna take credit for all the stuff we did, screaming it loud to the sky. He tossed the blood into a fire, and then was swept in the air by some spirits of some sort, tossed in the fire himself and started running around while burning.

That's where we reach Wrath of the Lich King. Budd hasn't been doing pretty good since, thinking he's a troll, wearing a troll mask and thinking he's playing "troll tag" when smashing a frying pan in a troll's face.

Now, Cataclysm, Budd's back in his usual garb, and while he still seems crazy, he seems to be doing better. Well, at the very least he doesn't think he's a troll anymore. While still apparently crazy, he still manages to hatch two plans that worked: One to kill Gnaws, and the obvious Manataur plan.

So, do you think that one day he'll get over his craziness, or will he stay crazy forever?
Maybe he's involved in 5.3. Maybe he'll be set to be the next warchief of the Horde.

Or maybe he died and we never see him again.

Or maybe he recovered and settled down and had kids and won't go on any more adventures with us.
They seem to think his loony behavior is funny, so I doubt he'll make a full recovery. I could see him be part of a serious quest arc, though, like a single-player tie-in to the Siege of Orgrimmar in 5.4.
I would not say recovering. They rewrote his mental problems from "thinks he is a troll" to "generic crazy person" to be funny.
Budd Nedreck. This election, there is only one Man-a-taur for the job.
If we're lucky, he will never appear in game again. Not only is he sort of ableist in general, he's a horrible, one-note character that lessens any storyline he's in. Zul'jin deserved better than to be downed in the name of phat loot at the behest of a redneck grave robber.
I will admit I chuckled a little at his Grizzly Hills appearance (mostly because I recalled that he was a schmuck in the ZA ending quest). His appearance in the Vashj'ir opener was uninteresting for me at least, but I can see how they used him to set up quests there, although I think it could just as easily have been done with others.

Don't think he really needs to show up again.

Slightly offtopic, but going off the crew that spawned from the 10 man ZA - Harrison Jones can stay in Stormwind Keep until WoW shuts down, plzkthx.

And he can keep his horribly boring, long and unskippable "cinemas". Ugh.

Oh god I laughed so hard it hurts.
"I'M A MANATAUR" still gets me every time.
His last name is telling, as are his quests.

He wasn't just made crazy, he was made dumber.

He will always give out quests that are the equivalent of red neck jokes.

Which is why I mentally lump him in with Harrison Jones quests: I don't want them.

Comic relief is fine, but too much makes the game a joke.

I've said it before: many people overestimate how serious this game is meant to be. While it does have many very serious stories, the game as a whole has always been fairly lighthearted and silly. Back in Vanilla there were still poop quests, along with a naga sorceress in love with a gnome, the Gnomeregon punchcards, a dwarf trapped in an outhouse, and plenty of other jokes and silly things.

"'Kid'? ... first off, human most of us are older than every single living member of your race. Second, some of us are older than your entire race period. Third, you're unarmed and walking into a den of cannibalistic trolls, and we've killed literal gods. Know what? No. You stay back and let us handle it, and if you're lucky, we'll let you wear our hat, Boy. ...Oh, wait, what's that? You died five steps into the instance? Oh gee, what a shame, oh the tragedy, ect. Loot his corpse, kick it out of the way, and let's move on."

... I never liked Harrison Jones.

I can't stand him. He made me look like an !@# in Grizzly Hills and made me looks like a scared weakling in Uldum. He must be purged.
Eh, who cares. He was funny, yeah, but Cata had a bit too much comedy (especially on the Ally side of things) and I'd rather him not have a significant role in the future.

Maybe a tiny side quest, but nothing story related

I agree with you on that. A little comedy is okay but zone after zone, quest after quest of it gets annoying.

It's not just the silliness, or even just the amount, it's also the quality. Harrison Jones and the rest of the ZA crew at this point are a really cheap set of jokes that don't take a lot of thought, like watching a 13 year old go down his list of jokes about a popular movie franchise with excruciating detail. Very little cleverness is required. The "Eels are Disgusting" autoquest in Vashj was infinitely funnier. I actually liked Harrison's ZA appearance, the Budd Nedreck's name is only the tip of the bad.

I certainly agree that the quality is not always up to par, but the point I was trying to make is that the game is not intended to 100% serious.

I agree. Westfall, Redridge and (especially) Uldum were pretty bad in that regard.

Having one or two parody quests in a zone can be funny. Fifty of them in a row? Not so much.

His Grizzly Hills quest was even funnier.

"Harrison Jones escorts you to safety."
