If you can please post the text from your output_log.txt or error_log.txt it would be really helpful.

Can you try the below steps and see if you're still crashing:

We're continuing to research this issue but we do have a temporary workaround. Setting your client to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode should resolve most of the freezes and stuttering. Steps below.

1. Go to the Hearthstone Build on your computer (you can use the Show in Explorer option from the Battle.net app)
2. Right click the Hearthstone.exe and go to properties.
3. In the Compatibility tab select "Run this program in comptability mode for:"
4. Set the field to Windows 7.

My output_log.txt is really long (3 pages long in Microsoft Word), and I'm not sure which part is relevant. I can't find an error_log.txt

The workaround works for me though. Even before the workaround, I didn't actually have to restart my computer: if I waited 5 minutes my computer would start working again.

I'm running Windows 8.1 without a touch screen.

I'm using WIndows 8.1 Pro and having the same issues since the update. Exiting HS seems to freeze the PC.

Same problem. When forcing a shut down by way of the task manager it tells me that there is an app running that prevents the closing.

Using alt-tab I can see an app running - in fact there were last time five instances of the app running. It shows as a small white page, blue picture on the left half of the page, text on the right half. I cannot open it (which of course is the problem), so I can not see what the text or the picture is.

Maybe some kind of permission pop up due to the update?

I too experience this issue (hard locks windows explorer, only option is a physical shut down/restart).

Windows 8.1 Update 1

I can confirm that compatibility mode for Win7 seems to alleviate the issue for now.

Only started since the latest patch to add win 8 touch support.

I'm experiencing the same issue on a Windows Surface Pro 2 tablet running Windows 8.1. I couldn't find an error_log.txt file in my Hearthstone directory, but I did find output_log.txt.

I see nothing here relating to the crash of Windows Explorer following the game being closed.

The log starts out with loading the .dll files for the game, then the rest is all "Unloading unused assets" or "Serialized files" until the end of the log. There is nothing extra at the bottom that mentions the game shutting down or any errors.

Hope you guys can get this sorted out soon, and let us all know if there's any permanent damage that might have been caused to our machines because of the crashes.

Same here.

It seems to be caused by or related to the Remote Procedure Call. I had my taskmanager open the last time it crashed and its using waaaay too much resources when i exit Heartstone.

There won't be any permanent damage. :p

When I set the game to compatability mode for Windows 7 I lose all input on my SP2. I'm trying it set to run as administrator to see if it's a problem with permissions that's making it crash.

Same thing is happening to me while I'm closing down Hearthstone at first it was me and I started posting on other forums even this one and I'm seeing that more people are having this weird issue after the Windows 8 patch.

- Hearthstone doesn't close properly when quitting, I have to restart to get my computer working again. it starts to lag my computer up-
