Raynor Now Available for Play for All Players

You may notice this week when you log in that Raynor is available to play for all players, and we wanted to take a moment to give you a bit of insight into why that is.

We’re currently exploring the idea of making Raynor freely available in Practice Mode to help new players transition out of the Tutorial with a familiar Hero, and as such we’re temporarily allowing Raynor to be available in all game modes for a bit while we try out this approach. As we don’t currently have the technology to offer different hero rotation lineups per game mode however, Raynor will also temporarily be available to play in Versus mode for the time being.

I like it. Will Raynor be the long term tutorial hero?

I guess he could be, he is a pretty basic hero and gives players an understanding of mechanics.

This is a *great* idea. I have to admit I found it very disorientating when I finished the tutorial (having learned all of Raynor's abilities) I had no way to practice more with him and had to choose a completely new, unfamiliar hero. He should definitely be available to all players after the tutorial, thank you!

I really like this idea! I think it would even be a good idea to give players Raynor as a free hero in all modes. It gives a comforting sense of ownership to have a hero in addition to the more ephemeral weekly lineup.

I always wondered if you'd implement this. Sounds like a great way to give new players a comfort zone. I'd even say make him free in co-op so that new players can play with their friends and get a better feel for team dynamics with a familiar character.

This is a great idea, you could make him cost 0 gold in the shop and have players go there to unlock him as part of the Tutorial. This would teach new players about the store and the ease of use that it offers along with all the other heroes that the player can unlock for gold or cash.

Yes, I agree. I was surprised to learn that Raynor wasn't given as a player's first hero. I had assumed he would be coming out of the tutorial. It just felt like the natural thing to do, to have him as the start of your lineup.

I agree with having him in co-op being a good idea. The buying for 0 idea may not be necessary, but does seem like a good way to introduce the shop. Right now it is just left to the player's exploration.

Good idea, but you could probably go a little farther and make one hero from each game be free. It seems really restrictive to have 0 base heroes to start and have to rely on a weekly free rotation.

I think this is a great idea, especially since when I first finished the Tutorial, Raynor wasn't an option last month.

But taken a step further, given that Raynor is in the cheap Hero tier, would it be so bad to make it a free Hero? Surely one perma-free Hero for new players wouldn't hurt terribly. Just food for thought.

Making Raynor permanently free is a no brainer for me. He's pretty basic and would give new or infrequent players a known "landing space".

I have to agree. I just started playing this game and I'm actually new to the genre. I know that you're doing the free character rotation but when you're having to play a new character every week while you're learning maps, mechanics, character, etc (ie Learning how to play) it can be daunting. Having one character that's permanent would be a definite plus.

Great idea. Stability when you're new to the genre is good. I chat with a number of core gamers that find jumping into MOBAs daunting and this should ease the transition.

I like this. A very brief 'store tutorial' where you go to unlock a Hero for free is a good idea

I like the idea, but don't you also think it may be somewhat confusing to the totally new people when they've had this hero available all through the tutorial and initial practice games but then not have it in the first co-op and vs. games that follow?

Not sure if 3 base unlocked heroes is necessary, but if they want to go that far, then I would suggest Li Li and Diablo as the other two as Li Li is probably the easiest to learn support and Diablo is a pretty basic warrior (who has death insurance as well) and it would be good for people to learn more about those three roles in their early experience with the game with specialists being left for people wanting more advanced ones.

I love this idea and feel it could indeed be used to give better insight on the Shop feature.

You could give players gold and suggest they invest it to unlock a familiar hero to continue their adventures, or save it up for another hero they might find interest in.
Also for those who are uncaring about the issue and are fine with playing the free heroes given will be happy getting extra gold to help them on a hero purchase, as many people already feel the gold gain is slow.

This is a great idea!

One more thing on a related vain. While I am a veteran player of other MOBAs, it might be a bit jarring to suddenly have Diablo on your team in your first practice-mode game, even though the mini-story had Diablo as your enemy with him taunting and you and stuff.

Doubt you guys have technology in place for stuff like that, but might be food for thought.

Again though, I didn't personally have an issue with this, just thinking about how others, especially new players will perceive it.

But absolutely love having Raynor available since he was your "first" spin champion.
