With Friends Like These

We've made it easier than ever for StarCraft players to connect with their fellow gamers. With a few clicks you can hook up with your friends to organize group matches, discuss mission strategies, brag about achievements, or just keep in touch.

To begin adding friends, click on the Add Friends button located in the lower right-hand corner of the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty welcome page. This will bring up a separate Add a Friend window through which you will be able to add both Real ID and character friends. You can also access the Add a Friend window by clicking on the Friends List icon to left of the in-game clock and then on the Add Friend button that appears within the pop-up menu.

Real ID Friends
To add a Real ID friend, simply enter your friend's Battle.net email address in the designated field and then click "Send Request." This will send a Real ID Friend Request to the specified account. Once the recipient account adds you as a Real ID friend in turn, his or her registered name will appear within your Friends List menu.

Character Friends
Anywhere within the Battle.net interface, it is easy to add character friends to your friends list. Simply right-click on that person’s character name wherever you see them (on the score screen, on their character profile, in a chat window, etc.) and select "Add friend" to add them. No confirmation is needed.

To manually add a character friend, click on the Add a Character Friend option within the Add a Friend window, supply both the character name and character code for the player you wish to add, and then click on the Add Friend button. This will automatically add the player as a character friend and his or her in-game name will appear within your Friends List menu. In the event that you have both Real ID and character friends, these friends will be organized by their respective friend type.

Add Facebook Friends
In addition to adding friends individually, you can also use the Facebook friend finder to find and add players from your Facebook friends list as Real ID friends. To access this feature, click on the Add Facebook Friends option, enter your Facebook email address and password in the appropriate fields, and then click on the Login button. Once you're connected, you will be able to select which of your eligible Facebook friends you want to send Real ID friend requests to by toggling the checkboxes next to their names.

Please note that in order to use this option, your registered Battle.net email address and Facebook email addresses must match. Similarly, you will only be able to search for Facebook friends who use the same registered email address for both their Battle.net and Facebook accounts.

To learn more about these features, be sure to check out the Real ID FAQ and Answers to Common Community Questions About Real ID.

For some reason, after using the Facebook button, I can't use any buttons except the "Add a Character Friend". Everything is unclickable.
In other words, I can't add people through their email, or through Facebook. only by "Add a Character Friend"

@Song: Same problem here, tried reinstalling but didn't work. Tried running repair but got this message: "Repair is unable to connect to the blizzard servers. Please check your internet and try again." Firewall is set to allow and Internet is working fine so im out of ideas. Another thing which was weird was that 2 of my mates added me but i cant see them on my friends list..though when i added another friend on my end it worked fine :S
Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry if this isn't the right spot to post but i couldn't seem to find a relevant forum anywhere. Cheers

Speaking of friends, and connecting with friends, I'd like to say that I dearly wish for Blizzard to include LAN Connectivity in a later patch. My friends and I have all purchased copies of SCII only to find out that we can't play each other, because of our rural location. Fellow Starcraft players, please please press this issue with Blizzard, everywhere possible.
Thanks in advance.

Did I miss something or is there no way to friend or even play with people you know in other countries? Any attempts a friend and I have made to add each other have failed, myself in US and he in UK. I really hope this isn't permanent, people do have friends outside of their country they're playing in and not being able to play at all with them is a big disappointment.

Also if this is the case, should it make this more clear? There's no indication as to why we can't friend, just doesn't happen, via RealID that is.

My facebook's email login is different from my Battle.net one and I've had no issues with adding Facebook friends.

@Velociraptor: Likewise, my facebook email is different from the battle.net email and I've had facebook friends send me a real ID friend request. Can someone clarify if this is working as intended?

Way to eliminate the social aspect of starcraft! This game just downgraded by awhole lot. Bring back the channels!
@TurteNSam: We do plan to introduce chat channels in a later patch. Nethaera goes into a bit more depth here: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/106470672#4

"We've made it easier than ever for StarCraft players to connect with their fellow gamers."

Actually Blizzard, you've made it nearly impossible for us to connect with our fellow gamers now that chat channels have been eliminated. You guys are lucky to have so many loyal followers who were willing to buy the game anyway!
