Patch 1.4.2 - Now Available on the PTR

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty patch 1.4.2 is currently in development and now available for testing on the PTR. This patch contains some balance changes, as well as some bug fixes. By participating in the PTR, you'll be among the first to test out the latest changes and help us ensure that when the patch is released, it's of the highest possible quality.

Details on how to access the PTR can be found in the FAQ. As this is a test server, please anticipate uneven game performance, and note that restarts and downtime may occur without warning. Once you've had the chance to try things out, be sure to visit the PTR forum to discuss the patch.

  • “Audio Fade” under Sound Options has been renamed to Game Volume During Alerts. Its tooltips have also been changed for clarification.
  • The fade-in for game sound during alerts changed from .5 seconds to 2 seconds.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a truncation on specific resolution if the current and maximum supplies are 3 digits.
  • Fixed an issue which prevented footprint from being edited in the Footprint Editor.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the game to have missing icons and images on low end graphics cards.

  • PROTOSS
    • Forge
      • The cost of Upgrade Shields Level 1 has been decreased to 150/150, down from 200/200
      • The cost of Upgrade Shields Level 2 has been decreased to 225/225, down from 300/300
      • The cost of Upgrade Shields Level 3 has been decreased to 300/300, down from 400/400
      • The cost of Upgrade Ground Weapons Level 2 has been decreased to 150/150, down from 175/175
      • The cost of Upgrade Ground Weapons Level 3 has been decreased to 200/200, down from 250/250
      • The cost of Upgrade Ground Armor Level 2 has been decreased to 150/150, down from 175/175
      • The cost of Upgrade Ground Armor Level 3 has been decreased to 200/200, down from 250/250
  • TERRAN

Its a redicoulas update in my opinion. Emp size reduced? Whats the Size of a storm? I bet its better than an emp, how is this balancing the game? Bottom line is emp dosnt even kill units, it just weakens them. Storm kills units.

And they make protoss upgrades cost way less, why? Toss have 3 defrent upgrades where the other races only have 2 so they had upgrade advantage to begine with, and they can crono boost to they upgrades are faster... So now there upgrades advantage just got bigger, how does this balance the game either? Sound like some protoss got tired of losing to terran so he told blizzard to nerf emp and give him free upgrades.... so redicoulas this game has become such a joke.

Toss can feed back a medivacs or a banshee and kill it with a templar before it even gets the chance to get into battle.

A ghost gets its snipe ability rendered were it does nothing accept to the templar... what do terran have to snipe warp prisms which get an hp buff so they got more hp than medivacs now, how are we suppose to snipe a void ray like a toss and feedback a banshee when ghosts snipe get nerfed and emp radius is reduced to redicoulas.

My update patch also stops at 69% or 70% then just closes and doesn't move past that. I would really like to find out how to fix this problem as well because I kinda feel like !@#$ing around on starcraft...

its called chrono, and if anyone has the upper hand in upgrades it has ALWAYS been protoss... chrono and upgrades that effect multiple units and buildings makes upgrading for toss easy, ive played toss and i was extremely surprissed at how easily i could go from 1 1 to 3 3 3... stop complaining because any problems in your game probably means you're terrible, because toss is the easiest race to play... im not complaining about the patch, just idiot lower level players like you!

I had the same problem, where it would get stuck at 69% and sometimes crash or stop responding. I ran it as administrator and it was fine.

Is anyone else getting patch errors at 69% stating "Waiting for files to close..." but then never does anything after that? Ive been waiting for like 20 minutes, and also did same as Admin.... Zilch. Zip. Zero. Nada.

Lol, I resigned myself to EMP, I never upgrade armour and I don't bother making/relying on units that can die to EMP (sentry, ht). But sure thanks, did it really have to take 7 months to figure this one out?

As for the upgrades... is this the fix to PvZ?

It should be: (1.5*1.5)/(2*2)*100 = 56.25%

To all you math geniuses... the way math really works (sorry Im a cynical bastard) is as follows:
2 - 1.5 = .5 (the difference)
.5/2 (which is what youre trying to show here calclated correctly) is also known as 1/2 divided by 2 or 1/2 times 1/2 (the reciprocal of 2) expressed as 1/2 * 1/2 which equals 1/4.
1/4 = N/100
1/4 * 100 = N
N = 100/4 = 25%

@Koder: EMP's AoE is a circle with radius 2. The formula for the area of a circle is pi*r^2. rikka simply skipped a step and did not show that pi cancels out. Therefore, to calculate the reduction in area, we have:

pi*1.5^2/(pi*2^2), which simplifies to 1.5^2/2^2= .5625. Therefore, the AoE has been reduced to 56.25% of its original size.

Buff for protoss? too minor until i cant feel that, you get to save up 150 gas and mineral for the entire game if you get to upgrade 3/3 for your ground army, what is that worth? 1 stalker+1 sentry? usually protoss get killed before they get 3/3, dun feel like any buff. Reduce time of upgrade might be greater idea.

@Brotoskavich: Thats 6 ghosts. Which is 1.2k minerals and 600 gas. Im a protoss player myself, and I think this should be enough. 25% reduction is hella lot.

I never have used Ghost, but have seen what they can do. They probably needed nerved in upper level play. As far as the upgrade goes fine what ever don't think it will effect anything that much.

Yea I gotta say ive been bashing Protoss for no reason at all thinking they wer "O.P" Well i was wrong... ever since ive hit top 8 in bronze yesterday because i recently quit 1v1 (Back to it again cus i want a pic >.< :P)
got back into it and find im being beat by zerg and NOT protoss for no other reason back then i didnt know wtf i was doing... now everytime i play against zerg i get to worry about being cheesed with mutas and baneling Bull!@#$... HOWEVER!... I something i will always look down on the protoss side is DTS'S and High Templars other than that I actually Feel bad for the race I dont really worry or feel like im going to get ROFL stomped by them, now its mainly zerg... Blizz plzzz fix ur game and dont ruin it like you are AND doing to W.O.W

@Thor: Zerg players use Mutas because they're harassment, when you get out of bronze things will change durastically. I used Mutaling/baneling ALL the time in Bronze, or just solid Roach. When I hit Silver, it changed. Mutaling is easy to deal with when you have some medivac, a couple vikings, and some marines, it becomes super easy with some adequate micro. Protoss needed those changes because their upgrades are retardedly expensive, Protoss is now going to be a bit heavy to deal with when they can upgrade for cheaper. The death ball will become scarier. However, Zerg isn't OP, nor is Terran, however Terran is a 1 base magic hat most of the time. All you gotta do is understand Mutalisks are fast, but not tanks. Banelings are weak to splash damage and good stim micro with marines/marauders. Marauders can tank banelings too.
