Season 7 Ladder Map Update

Season 7 Ladder Map Update

Starting with Season 4, we began experimenting with prioritizing tournament-style maps on the StarCraft II ladder. Then in Season 6 we gave player-created maps the spotlight. Now, in Season 7, GSL tournament maps take the stage.

We ran a poll that allowed players from every region to vote on two GSL tournament maps to join the official ladder, as well as a poll to determine which map would be retired from the pool. The voting was close, but in the end three maps emerged victorious from the fray, while one will finally retire.

Season 7, which begins in the week of April 9, brings with it the following changes to the existing map pool -- though you can prepare for the new maps before the season starts by playing them as Custom Games:

Map being removed: (4) The Shattered Temple
The poll results were clear:  the time has come to retire The Shattered Temple from the official ladder.

Maps being added:

(2) Daybreak LE

(4) Metropolis LE

(2) Ohana LE

By IronmanSC and the other members of the ESV Mapmaking Team

Thank you all for helping us shape the Season 7 ladder by participating in these groundbreaking polls. We will continue to mix up the map lineup on the StarCraft II ladder to keep things fresh, and we’ll also maintain our focus on tournament-viable maps to ensure the fiercest competition. Maps that don’t make the cut will be replaced by maps that meet the standards set by major tournaments all around the globe.

See you on the ladder!

With extra maps in the pool, do we get an extra veto?

I just wish they would stop messing with the maps the way they are. The creep on the bases on metropolis were fine lower league players can figure it out, and ruining daybreak by putting in the 8 patch 2 gas instead of leaving it 6 with 1 rich geiser

@DreaM: From the Screenshot world view thing it looks like 1 geyser and six mineral patches.

!@#$%^- it Blizzard stop screwing with the maps. Stop adding mineral patches. Stop putting rocks everywhere. Lower league players aren't that stupid. They have eyes as well. Revert your useless changes they're not helping anyone. Please just stop being so out of touch with your game.

@Magikarp: the rocks are for early game- protoss can get enough sentries to forcefeild off a quick push. the rocks are fine, just attack em in mid game.

@BlackBalloon: Those rocks have been on every edition of the map (assuming you are reffering to the ones on Metropolis' choke). I believe the rocks Magikarp is referring to are the ones they placed on the island expansions instead of neutral creep tumors that were in the original.

@Magikarp: The sub-expos on Daybreak are still 6-1, not sure what you're talking about... were they 5-1 usually? I never really noticed.

These all seem to be pretty zerg favoured. Easy 3-4 bases without much defence.

love the maps. so glad metropolis makes it to ladder. ohana looks awesome too, with all the minerals, but all those choke points seem to make zvp a little more challenging for the zerg. gotta wait and see. definitely needs lots of flanking mid to late game

Why did you replace the tumor at the island bases on metropolis with rocks? Its not just about blocking the expo it's also about the opportunity cost of waiting for the creep to recede. Do you really think low level players are SO stupid they wont think to kill the circle thingy preventing them from landing their cc's?

I wish I could down vote maps based on match ups, I really hate zvz on 2 player maps. no one ever tries to macro no matter how long the rush distance because zerglings are just so damn fast.

Daybreak LE has 8 mineral fields and 2 gas geysers in the forward expansions. Turtle up my Terran friends!

Other than that nice job Blizz

@Skaggs: Except if you mess with the balance of the maps.

It's like, you're doing so well, you're doing everything right, and then you have to ruin it at the last minute by messing with what is possibly the greatest tournament map ever.

@TimeRocker: The rocks just open a 2nd entrance that is close to the first one, destroying the rocks favors the defending of your 3rd natural. Thus, disfavoring a bit zergs that like to 3ple fast expand.
