Balance Update - 5.10.12

You might have been part of helping us test the new balance changes coming to StarCraft II, and these most recent adjustments will be coming to the game very soon. What’s different is that, for the first time ever, they won’t be applied as part of a patch.

On May 10, after a brief maintenance period in each region, the following balance changes will take effect globally:

Protoss

  • Observer build time decreased from 40 to 30 seconds

Zerg

  • Overlord movement speed increased from 0.4687 to 0.586
  • Queen anti-ground weapon attack range increased from 3 to 5

Again, to be clear, these changes will take effect after a short maintenance in each region is complete, and neither a patch nor any other special action will be required to experience them in-game.

Finally I can go observers in mono battles! I am interested to see how it will all play out. I don't claim to have the skill to play high level games, but I will watch the pro games closely to see how things change.

@Neo: We should get our tank damage back because everybody still complains about it despite how useless the tanks are unless you've got 10 stacked.

There are maps where the natural is wide open like Metalopolis. You needed 2 spines to defend instead of 1. Queens can help stop the un-scoutable marauder+hellion all-in. Overlord speed increased by 25%. Still damn slow but guaranteed overlord near the enemy base is really important and is now possible on all maps.

@uberOverlord: Marauders and Hellions can neither attack air, so there shouldn't have been any problem scouting that. The speed increase on Overlords isn't going to affect mid-game so much as it will affect early game. Zerg are going to know what is going down on the entire map within 5 minutes. They will have map control before anybody gets any units out. That's stupid.

@Sykora: Take a good look at the Baneling why don't you. I don't see any buffs to Terran mech that make these do less damage. No, instead 10 Baneling will decimate a Thor.

Zerg/Protoss simply want the game to be imbalanced so they have a chance of beating players of the same skill level without having to play a better game.

I totally hate how the fact that QUEEN range upgraded? really, since when do talons reach out THAT freaking far and that PROHIBITS early NECESSARY scouting with the probe when you enter the base. Its IMBA for that reason.

@GNCBloonhead: Zerg cant scout as soon as you have a cyber core down so dont complain, we havent been able to scout until an overseer and by then, its too late to know if a 4 gate is coming, dts, all we can do is guess by the number of gases at your expansion!

My 2c:

I have no problem with either observer or overlord patch. I do have an issue with increasing the queen range. YOU'VE JUST NERFED PROTOSS ABILITY TO SCOUT WITH A PROBE.

The entire point of this balance patch was to improve scouting no?

@GenetiX: Yea cause they deal with Chargelots just so well. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Terran are gimped and have been for months.

Not only will Terran all-ins not work, but Terran pressure won't work period. You need to be significantly better to perform the same as another race. I think I'll switch to Protoss since they are OP too.

I wonder, with the Queen range increase, might we possibly see a revert of some previous reaper nerfs? One of the biggest things that made reapers OP in TvZ was the fact that reapers outranged everything Zerg Tier 1. That's no longer the case with Queens being range 5, and even roaches have received a range buff from 3 to 4. Maybe a revert of reaper build time? Would be nice to see.

@Glitch: why would terran bunkers need a change? Queen range buff will make bunker rushes alot easier to deal with and unless you are horrible as a toss you should be fine against bunker rushes

I find it quite amusing reading through all of these comments, and its simply because almost all of them sound like there coming from an 8 year old on a long road trip. Seriously guys? Blizzard has been making games for years, and they probably know what there doing so give them a break. Imagine yourself being in their shoes, when every time you try and make the game easier for everyone else to play. then these whiny ignorant people just cast away your calls and state them as an act of imbalance. Also I find it an absolute mind **** that people are complaining about this when it has not even been released yet; i think maybe you should try playing the game with this patch before "qq" ing about all of your rage and frustrations about how your race is so underpowered. When the simple answer is to just figure out a way to "PLAY" past it. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Again I am really disappointed in Blizzard's decision of not nerfing Terran...
1. Increase bunker build time to 60-70 seconds.
2. Increase Ghost Build cost to 300 min - 150 gas
3. Increase Queen starting energy to 50 - 75
4. Increase Raven build cost to 300 min - 300 gas
5. Increase Tech lab build time to 50 seconds
6. Decrease Collosus build time to 50 seconds
7. Decrease Protoss shield upgrade to 100- 100
8. Decrease Sentry cost to 50 minerals 50 gas
9. Decrease High Templar cost to 50 min 100 gas
10. Observer should not cost any supply
