Season 8 Has Begun

Season 8 Has Begun

The eighth StarCraft II League season has arrived! At this time, Season 7 milestones have been awarded and bonus pools and standings have been reset. Hidden skill ratings used for matchmaking and league placement have carried over from the previous season, so players who have completed placement matches in a previous season will only need to play one new placement match to kick off the new season.

Don’t forget to review the changes to the official ladder map pool for Season 8 and keep in mind that Grandmaster League will start next week.

Good luck, have fun!

Looks like I'm entering a bit late.. Does this mean I will be in a less competitive ladder?

NEUTRAL SUPPLY DEPOTS!

I really don't understand why we don't have them yet. They're a simple fix to a very imbalanced problem.

Why are there still no neutral supply depots at the bottom of very pylon-blockable ramps? T_T Blizzard...

So I've won 19 out of the 22 games that I've played since the season began. I'm sitting in 3rd on my ladder (Only because the two guys above me appear to have no lives and have played about 50 games a piece) and I'm still not moving up. How big a win streak do I need?

@CylonKiller: It's not about the win streak but your opponent, you can and win 6 games against higher league opponents and get promoted. Look at your matches, if you are all higher league than you, you should be promoted soon. If you ranked 3rd and still only playing same league players, you need to keep it up :)

HOW LEAGUE PLACEMENT MATCHES WORK: The placement match is NOT what decides what league your put in. The placement match is simply there to see who is still playing the game at each season and place them into a league at their current level of play. WHAT DECIDES YOUR LEAGUE is the ongoing combinations of all your games played. This continues across seasons. To successfully go up a league you must be a consistent winner in your given league. I.E. around top 3. stay around that level and the game will bump you up by itself.

@LLAMAMiLK: It is possible to go up a League during the placement match. This is due to the fact you cant change leagues during the Season lock. If you managed to pass the level needed to get into the next league during the season lock, you will be awarded after your placement match.

@Marinevibrio: The game is balanced , you just have to keep learning and not get stuck into bad habits. So many players get stuck in silver and gold because instead of improving basics, they work on only one or two builds, or try to come up with all ins, etc. Watch some games, learn how to play certain situations, and before you know it things that seem unbalanced now will disappear.

@Deus: I'm not entirely sure about this, but I'm fairly certain (and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know how often you play), but I think a part of getting into certain leagues is how frequently you play. If you don't play often I think they'll place you in lower leagues.

@Vindicta: The amount of games that you play has nothing to do with what league you get promoted into.... the only thing that matters is your skill level and the skill level of the opponents you beat/loose to!

I just got into the silver leagues and i really don't understand. I thought one i was out of the bronze leagues, cheesing would not be an issue any more. But my first three games in the silve leagues have been Protoss proxy pylon rushes! all attacks come around the 6 minute mark and last time i checked thats a cheese. Last season I was going head to head with a lot of silver players and i was winning a lot. Now it seems my strategies are useless. I don't understand. Can some one please enlighten me on why this is happening? Any help would be great and much appreciated. By the way my primary strategy vs Protoss, zerg and even terran is an MMM with an aim to move out at the 10 minute mark and win by 11 minutes is there a problem with this plan because it worked in the bronze league when i fought silver but is not doing any good. Thanks again GL HF

@SlayerOfZerg: no matter in what league you are there will always be cheese in the last GSL code S final the last game was a cheese taht won the game. You need to have a good build and if you have it you should be able to defend versus any kind of cheese search teamliquid.com if you are having trouble with a certain cheese and learn how you are suposed to react. Also dont think you are going to win the game at 11 think of it as a push but you must have a followup plan if the attack is not successful.

@TheChosenOne: Well thats what i meant but it usually wins the game at 11 so unless i am playing terran, i never really worry past 11 to 12 minutes. Thanks for the advice by the way i plan to go there as soon as possible.

@SlayerOfZerg: Another thing to consider is I've learned the hard way that the exact same strategy doesn't work for every game you do; so find different strategies from MMM that work for you for other things (that doesn't always include cheese)!

It figures that I would start season 8 with a rocky start. Ah well at least I'm still in silver.

Ugh, take one vacation and I'm totally noobified when I get back.

@Pointy: I've had a few seasons where I was trying pretty hard. I got to the point last season where I was beating multiple mid masters in a row and a top 25 now n then. Then i lost to 6 masters in a row and lost confidence. The bad thing about it is you want to practice but when you lose a couple games in a row things normally go bad but when you think your on the cusp of a promotion you just want to hit find game so badly.

in other words, its pretty darn hard, at least if you do it straight up macro style like ive been trying to. i definitively need to learn to 1 base better because sometimes its the appropriate response.

alot of kids will tell you how easy it was and to them i say good for you but my natural skills are not in multitasking. i'm best at concentrating on one specific thing. i thrive on that. i think thats why i like sc2, it forces me to do something im not naturally good at and is therefore challenging and rewarding when i succeed.

sorry to rant lmao

im tired, i completely demolished 2 silvers in about 7 minutes and my partner and I both landed in bronze again, and my 3v3 with my friends, 5 placements, beat 4 plats in a row and ended up IN BRONZE WTF? this is really stupid.......
