Battle.net World Championship Headed to China

Battle.net World Championship Headed to China

We’ve just announced that the Battle.net World Championship event -- the culmination of the over 30 StarCraft II World Championship Series (WCS) tournaments, and home to the upcoming World of Warcraft Arena global finals -- will take place November 17 and 18 in Shanghai, China.

Players from 28 countries are continuing to battle it out in the StarCraft II World Championship Series (WCS) against their countrymen and rivals at the national and continental levels, and their final destination is now set. The best of the best will arrive in Shanghai waving their country’s flag, and fighting for the chance to place their names and countries as the winners of the Battle.net World Championship.

As we get closer to the Battle.net World Championship event we’ll have more details on what events and activities will be featured, where and when streams will be available, player and shoutcaster lineups, and more! Until then, the WCS is just starting to hit its stride. National qualifiers and finals continue, and we’ll soon start seeing the continental-level tournaments, the large tournaments which will decide who will represent their country at the BWC in Shanghai.

Or maybe its a diplomatic effort to improve their relationship with the next world superpower and expand their already massive fanbase in Asia. Who knows?

I'm sure that this event being held in China has absolutely NOTHING to do with the upcoming Asian theme World Of Warcraft expansion pack, right Blizzard......right?

Honestly though, this is a huge mistake by Blizzard. People from outside the country will not be able to see the event live, unless they possess a Chinese visa and a gas mask (for the pollution). This is a problem, as some of the Chinese commentators are biased as hell (for some cups anyways, not sure about major tourneys).
Why don't they just take out the Chinese and we can have our tourney in Canada/US/Europe?

@David: Cause if china refuse to hold this, no one else will do it. you can go to your local government and ask them about their opinion. I am sure they don't want to waste money on this. I can tell that you strongly dislike PRC, but your comments are too objectvie. Not persuasive.

@IMVictorious: Not really i seen horrible terran players that just sit in their base with like a tousand siege tanks and bunker but some are good enough to research upgrade, harass, micro and other stuff just know that every race is equal depend on the player

Am I the only one completely baffled by Blizzard's decision to host their biggest self-run tournament in a country which doesn't give a single **** about stopping gold sellers, hackers, and copyright infringement? China built an entire theme-park which was all about World of Warcraft, without any permission from Blizzard to do so. Why would Blizzard be rewarding that them by hosting a major international e-sports tournament in a country where the majority of players make money by ripping off Blizzard's customers?

@oBsCarnabas: I agree. They really should have just taken out China and just had the tourney in Canada/US/Europe or something. I believe that the only reason its hosted in China is that the !@#$ty Chinese gov't make it really hard for its players to leave the country.

@David: No, Chinese players usually couldn't make foreign tourneys because the host countries don't give them visa. Most countries are very strict about giving visas to Chinese citizen and immigration officials are too dumb to understand eSports. Issuing visas has nothing to do with the home country gov, but the destination country gov. Get your fact straight before spit it out.
