Who Will Be At BWC - Updated

It is often said that the journey is more important than the destination. The StarCraft II World Championship Series (WCS) exemplifies that sentiment, with dozens of qualifier tournaments, national finals, and continental championships spread out over several months. The goal of the WCS has been to provide competitive opportunities to players in regions all over the world, and identify new eSports heroes. Over the past months, we’ve seen plenty of new players and fresh talent be given the opportunity to travel to and compete with the best of the best in their country and continent.

The Battle.net World Championship (BWC) is coming, and players from countries all over the world have battled their way through regional qualifiers for the chance to join their national event. At each national event, they fought for the right to represent their country at the continental event. Some of those nationals event winners also earned guaranteed spots at BWC. Now the continental events are drawing to a close, and the remaining players prepare to clash at the BWC in Shanghai later this year for the title of World Champion.

As the WCS comes to a close, it’s time for us to shift our focus from the journey to the destination. Earlier this week, we announced the format for the StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Finals. In two short months, 32 of the world’s best StarCraft II players will be traveling to China to compete for both country and a share of the $250,000 prize pool. The winner of the event will be taking home both the prestigious title of StarCraft II World Champion and a $100,000 cash prize.

An event like the World Championship Series can be a complex affair, so we created an image to more clearly show who has earned the right to compete for the global title. This graphic describes their journey; all the way from who earned seeds at nationals, to the list of competitors that will tangle at BWC at the top.

North American qualifier Ostojiy will not be participating in the Global Finals, and will be replaced by Conan "Suppy" Liu.

I am worried for production values. Since this is in Shanghai as well, the tournament might look and operate just as badly as WCS Asia did. Blizzard, please make it at least as good as WCS Europe.

@DAV: They're two different players. They're both from Korea and they both play Protoss but one is on TeamLiquid the other is on CJ Entus.

Won't be watching. Bad enough seeing Mvp lose to some no-name 15 year old who plays a dozen games a month, last thing I need is to watch this travesty of a tournament showcase how awful game balance currently is. Hope you're happy, Blizzard.

You do realise Lucifron is in the top 5 Terran players in the world? Arguably top 3. To say he is no-name 'Terran' is really insulting to him and shows your ignorance. He is definitely a contender to win this entire tournament and if he does you will eat your words.

@SgtSlick: you have got to be trolling to consider Lucifron a top 5 Terran player in the world.

I can name 10 Korean Terran players without any difficulty that are better than him.

Two problems: Streaming quality was to laggy, and first place in WCS prize pool too small investors need to add more money into WCS 100,000 to small good amount should be 5 million for first place. Second place in WCS should be 3 million something like that more ppl would come to watch and join Starcraft 2 battle net. China is a good place to host Final WCS good thing Blizzard made a right decision. I hope WCS second 2 would be bigger then season 1 WCS.

It's in China? Why would any American go to China? Why does Blizzard, an American Company host the finals in China? That's like hosting an American event in Russia, during the Cold War.

That's a silly thing to say. I would go to China to compete in the Global Finals (provided they pay for it, I know I couldn't foot the bill lol.) It goes without saying that SC is a worldwide video game phenomenon. I seriously doubt a game tournament will be able to fill a stadium or auditorium in America like China would. And I'd bet 5 greenbacks that the development team is not 100% American anyway soooooo...

32 spots
15 Zerg
13 Protoss
4 Terran

Something wrong here?

FOR GOD SAKE BLIZZARD... IT'S NOT JUST WHO WINS THE TOURNAMENT THAT MEASURES BALANCE.

"Well, Terrans win tournaments roughly the same amount as Zerg and Protoss... so... the answer to Terran problems is, um... being the best player in the world!" Nevermind the fact that for the other 99.9999% of players out there, their entire SC2 experience is summed up PERFECTLY in this one tournament bracket.

@Snuck: You can't say just because only 4 Terran got in means that it's unbalanced. It's the player not the race.
