@Freakshow: You can out mass stalkers, and roaches beat them 1v1. Mass roach will beat stalkers unless you get force shielded, and Protoss will just transition to immortals after you do that. Beat Protoss early, they are slow to start, let them get going you will have troubles winning.

@Andres: Number of wins has nothing to do with anything. It's a hidden ELO rating, called in WoW the MMR, or Match Making Rating. It is not, at all, based on the ELO rating you see in your division, either.

You don't have to be Diamond to be on this list, either. There have been platinums in the past. This is because you can have a very very high MMR for a while before being moved up in league.

@Michael: MMR/ELO is basically a fast-moving rating that's based on who you play and whether you win or lose.

The way that it works is that the more you are favored, the fewer points your ELO/MMR rating will go up if you win and the more points your ELO/MMR rating will go down if you lose. Conversely, the more your opponent (team/player) is favored, the more points your ELO/MMR rating will go up if you win and the fewer points it will go down if you lose.

Basically:

- Beat a team that's highly favored and your MMR/ELO goes way up.
- Beat a team when you're highly favored and your MMR/ELO goes up very little.
- Lose to a team that's highly favored and your MMO/ELO goes down a little.
- Lose to a team when you're highly favored and your MMR/ELO goes way down.

You cannot see your MMR/ELO and no one knows exactly how it is calculated. It has basically no relation to your division rankings or rating. It is believed that your league placement depends on your MMR/ELO, but no one knows exactly how.

Because of the inflationary rating system and the small divisions, it is virtually impossible to know how you stand on a percentile basis. This is deliberate because Blizzard wants players to feel like they are doing well regardless of their actual skill level.

The MMR/ELO system is also responsible for bat**%*-insane behavior like my 2v2 team being stuck in Bronze despite consistent wins against Platinum teams (we probably belong in Gold). Similarly, my Bronze 4v4 beat a 4v4 tonight with four Diamond players, and somehow I'm in Platinum on my 3v3 (which has 3 of 4 players in common with my 4v4).

After 5 years of WoW, this is the Blizzard I know. Balance issues and obscure, self-contradicting rating systems are just par for the course with today's Blizzard.
