Cheating in StarCraft II

Cheating in StarCraft II

Blizzard Entertainment has always taken cheating in any form in Blizzard games very seriously, and that's no different for StarCraft II. If a StarCraft II player is found to be cheating or using hacks or modifications in any form, then as outlined in our end user license agreement, that player can be permanently banned from the game. This means that the player will be permanently unable to log in to Battle.net to play StarCraft II with his or her account.

Playing StarCraft II legitimately means playing with an unaltered game client. Doing otherwise violates our policies for Battle.net, and it goes against the spirit of fair play that all of our games are based on. We strongly recommend that you avoid using any hacks, cheats, or exploits. Suspensions and bans of players that have used or start using cheats and hacks will begin in the near future.

I'm all for cracking down on hackers, but I'm a little pissed about them being allowed to ban people who had their accounts stolen and it was not their fault. So blizzard, your welcome for the $59.99, and you guys are now some giant !***s in my book

@Darkart - Ridiculous lol. I've been sUrfing the internet with this computer for years now and haven't once had any form of account associated with any type of game or website compromised. And not to mention I visit sites that are typically viewed as unsafe and download things that can get typical users into trouble. You just have to not be an idiot and if you have a quality AV you'll most likely be fine. But a good AV doesn't make up for a lack of common sense...

While there are such thing as false positives, I would wager to say that 99% (perhaps more) of the people banned for "supposedly" cheating were indeed trying to cheat, or were cheating in one form or another. I do not feel even the slightest bit of remorse for people trying to gain an unfair advantage in any form. Just like steroids in baseball, it just ain't fair. We should make a cheaters-league for athletes that have super-steroid pumped bodies and in the same vein we should have a server for Starcraft dedicated to people cheating. Whoever can make the best steroid pumped body and whoever can make the best hack wins!

Do they ban your game, like the CD code, or the battle.net account? Like if I somehow get hacked and subsequently banned, is that a hundred dollars down the drain?

Why do you guys think so many people are complaining about getting banned for no reason? What have been the techniques of scamming people into giving over their username / passwords? Phishing? Who wastes their time phishing Battle.Net SC2 accounts?

Bottom line if you got banned for cheating then you were cheating or your account was compromised which to be blunt, is completely your fault. Blizzard can't have gray area for that. It's up to you to pause your game and research how to protect your computer or not browse porn sites if you can help it etc. Blizzard even released the Authenticator which they didn't have to do, to help out. Beyond that I have no pity for people who get "hacked" or got banned for cheating and are pretending they got hacked.

Anyone who is serfing the internet with their gaming computer is just asking to have their accounts to games online hacked.

The internet is an evil place and websites all over the world are just waiting to rip you off of anything you have of value in that computer.

Do not for one second think your safe because you have a router, Internet security and anti-spy sweeper installed, and I know many people who just use a router and free anti-virus software with windows firewall in place.

You are the hackers dream machine.

So let me repeat if you serf the internet hard core going to all kinds of suspect sites you are bound to get nailed. Sooner then later. Use common sense with your gaming computer. If you want to serf porn sites do it with a 100 dollar linux computer....NOT your gaming computer.

For many of you don't be offended by this post. Most people understand all that I have said. But Lord you would be surprised at even my own friends that surf the internet with windows firewall and a free anti-virus and every 2 weeks are reinstalling their OS.

@Darkart: I have surfed the web with my gaming computer for 14 years, and I do not this problem. And the hacks this post is talking about is in relation to cheating, not compromising accounts.

@Darkart: This is completely untrue, all internet surfing takes is a little common sense and a couple backup defenses for if something gets through, I have only ever ONCE had to reinstall windows due to a virus or worm, and that was cuz the thing completely made a second fake copy of windows, locked the real one, and linked them so that it deleted the corresponding real windows file if you deleted the viral one. Other than that I have never not been able to get rid of the very few viruses (maybe one a year?) that get through by just using common sense on the web. I lost all my gear/gold *once* in WoW and Blizz found that it wasn't even my fault. Someone got through the packets on the login server or some such thing. So even if you don't surf the internet on your gaming computer there is still a slim chance that you can get your account stolen. Just be smart and immediately change the password the second you find out.

Also "surfing" is what you do on the web. A "serf" is a slave or servant. If you're going to talk down to people at least check your grammar.

@Darkart: Wow u guys have weak firewalls. My dad is pretty old now but he created a firewall extremely powerful that an entire rack has to hold it plus security on the network plus security on my computer and others, plus security even through trhe wires plus out strict regulations to scan or avoid infected websites or suspected ones. It is most likely on the TOP 10 list and the military are trying to buy it. Amazing i know!!! And i didn't know there is a 100 dollar computer. o-o And i have Windows 7 Ultimate and is stable with 5 hard drives with over 20+ Terrabytes of network storage. I am not lying my friend. If u want some of those go to google and search infoweapons.com . Its a bit costy but extremely powerful. We also even have our own email server. i'm from sea so don't call me a noob. Nice job on 250 wins solo as protoss. :)

@Darkart: Trick to avoiding 99% of web-bound malware: Don't use internet explorer. Seriously, the solution really is that simple. Of course if you download and run a sketchy executable, the malware is no longer web-bound and that's a whole different can of worms.

Those who are wondering why they got banned....they ban any modification you made to the game.

This includes trainers/etc as well, not just maphacking.

I am guessing most people tried to use a trainer to get achievement points in single player mode

Anyone know if using the G15/19/510 keyboards are considered against the TOS? I know that it specifically doesn't alter the game client but it seems to be a grey area in the terms.

@Bojangles: The keyboards do not even work in SC2. I have a G15 and tried to make some macros, they simply do not work in game. So using those keyboards is fine.

@snakeyes: I wonder about a Lycosa? You can actually change any key you want on them and set it to automatically switch profiles when you go into specific games. I haven't had a reason to make any macros for SC2 but now I wonder.

really now, so all blizzard does was make more money by banning people who purchased SC2 with honest expectations that they will experience fair play and fun! it shows that their system is very hackable and should instead focused on improving it and not go around just banning people like that without proper investigation and consideration.

@InfantryMan: I am sure Blizzard did not go banning people for no reason. They have a program called Warden that is supposed to be pretty advanced in terms of determing who is hacking. Any program that alters the game in anyway is considered a hack. So trainers and other programs used in single player mode are tracked as well.

I just got off the line with Blizzard stating that my account had been banned and since i dont hack it must have been compromised and hence i shouldnt be punished. they told me that account security is MY responsibility. so if someone hacks my blizzard.com login and get my card # on file its MY fault. alittle subline i found in the TERMS OF SERVICE: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your User Name and password, and you will be responsible for all uses of your User Name and password whether or not authorized by you. Security of your account is your responsibility.

Puts all kinds of faith into a multimillion dollar company who takes no responsibility for there customers security.
To bad after 15 years as a DIEHARD blizzard fan and purchasing each of their games several times because i worn the disks out that the next dollar i spend on a game will be with another game provider. I am no bull very sad about that fact.

@Cracktout: If you would have gotten an account authenticator you would not have had your account compromised. Easy as that. Security is 100% your responsibility. And as far as Blizzard getting hacked and someone stealing your info from there, that is 100% Blizzards fault, unless they hacked the site from your account, then it's your fault again :)
