Meh. A lot of this isn't improvement, just Blizzard backpedaling out of a failed experiment. In WoL, Blizzard tried to push new players to do "co-op" games as training, before transitioning to ranked matchmaking. SC2 might even be the first RTS without a "1v1 a computer on a random map" feature!

It's nice and all, don't get me wrong.

Im liking the sound of the New patch, I like how the Ai is going to be more Intelligent, I like variety in my games, and look forward to playing unranked if im tired instead of having to worry about my rank all the time

Never was a big SCII Vanilla player, as in Matchmaking and League. I can't wait to see what other types of games will be brought over from Korea and etc. A lot of developers were constricted by the "Only post on your server", and had to have their friends post different versions of the same game.

I hope you get to keep your old portraits, I put lots of work in. But the AI difficulty should differ by race for each player, say if your good at terran you fight hard AI, and bad at protoss you go against easy AI, etc.

I think this is going to kill the game. My mind is everywhere today but if you want some serious input read:

I binge. I literally only play 1 game at a time, and dump a majority of spare time into that game. For the past several months it has been SC2. Before that I wasted countless hours on League of Legends.

Part of the reason why I quit playing League of Legends is that the ladder/ranking system sucked. If you divide the game up into competitive-custom and ranked, you are basically creating the same !@#$ty system that League of Legends did with Draft and Ranked. Ranked games are going to blow cuz the match making isn't going to be up to par. You don't want the majority of people to be playing custom games. If you throw a title like "ranked" on a button it's going to freak kids out and then custom games are then gonna have %^-*ty match making. The only good thing I can see about the custom games is that you can play more races easier. Part of the commitment to starcraft tho is about choosing what race you want to play and sticking with it.

IMO, the most popular mode needs to definitely be the "Quick Match" game mode. Sorry if this offends anyone but I hate single player, and lame custom games. I've only played like 4 or 5 missions of WoL and that was only when the servers would be down for a short period of time (which isn't often, so you can see how often im on playing). 99.9% of my time i sink into multiplayer quick match (2's or 4's mostly, 3's people dont team fight as well). The only thing I really wish was that some of the maps available on custom games were available on quick match. It seems like they have way cooler maps sometimes. I think some upgrades need to be done to the 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 maps in terms of texture quality and ambient detail from the quick match list. Even though some of the maps are cooler I've still only played a total of 2 or 3 custom games in my entire life. Custom games needs to be for kids who need to just practice a build or something, or who are fiending some kind of map mod, but that should just be placed in the arcade or something. Maybe Arcade and Custom games should be combined or something. Idk i just know I got some big ideas on how to really fix this game if you really want my brain to tweak it.

I'm really close to getting 750 wins with zerg, and I was going to try and make it to 1k but now it just seems pointless? Will portraits still carry over to the new expansion? I may just end up quitting SC2 because I'm really not in the mood to throw another $60 into an "expansion" with missions that i'm not going to play anyway. You want a real expansion? Throw a $20 price tag on it and make it available online or in stores. Don't create a new campaign and think that every customer is going to care about it. The #1 reason i'm playing a Multiplayer game in the first place is to play with other people. That's all I ever wanted from Starcraft was a good Quick Match/ Multiplayer platform with good match making.

@aliasr: This rant is incoherent. It keeps using the phrase "custom games" in contexts that have nothing to do with custom games. It also reads like a conspiracy theory, the way it jumps around.

I really like the way they set up the multiplayer progression from training to ranked matches. I might finally get on the multiplayer wagon instead of holding that sign that says "Does not play well with others" I think a lot of people like myself feel a bit intimidated when thinking about going head to head with another player instead of the AI. This is the kind of feature that will better prepare new players who won't have to feel so intimidated when starting out, and veteran players will eventually have a lot more people to match up with down the road. I think Battlenet will see a big rise in their multiplayer numbers because of the progressive design of multiplayer in SC2 HotS. I can almost hear Jim Raynor saying "Welcome to bootcamp boys!" of course I can also hear Kerrigan saying "Come back to bed" but that's probably best left to my single player fantasies LOL!

@ArchAngel: The regular online community of SC2 does not realize that the MAJORITY chunk of SC2 sales were non-super competitive players. You will notice that there is definitely a decline simply because most of the players have not stuck around playing too competitively and moved on.

In my opinion, I believe that Blizzard did a B- job in providing . The initial direction of the SC2 improved upon the phrase "Easy to learn, hard to master." Campaign levels, Casual Difficulty as well as Challenge mode/Challenger map, and your leagues provide organized path to mastering SC2.

I do not give it an A because Blizzard should have implemented all these changes from the start. I do not give it a C because Blizzard is willing to change and improve the gaming experience on SC2. (If you want source, I can provide)

I love the idea of being able to practice with the training option. I sucked at multiplayer and had no idea how to improve my game. There was the challenge that help a bit but not as much as the training option will.
