Battle.net Authenticator Change

Battle.net Authenticator Change

To help keep Battle.net accounts as secure as possible, we've recently changed how Battle.net authenticators can be used. Going forward, Battle.net authenticators can now only be associated with one Battle.net account at a time. No changes are being made to how many game licenses a single Battle.net account can support. You can still have multiple World of Warcraft accounts under a single Battle.net account, for instance, and all game licenses linked with a Battle.net account will still be protected if an authenticator is in use.

Those of you who currently have more than one Battle.net account associated with a single authenticator will be able to maintain your existing setup without needing to do anything. This change will only affect new authenticator attachments. But, if at some point you decide to detach the authenticator from any of your Battle.net accounts for any reason, you won't be able to reattach it if it's already associated with another Battle.net account.

For more information on the Battle.net authenticator and mobile authenticator application (available for free with many mobile carriers), please visit http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/blizzardauth

I'm a Dad who purchased Star Craft 11 for my son. He created a character and is now playing. I wanted to create another character ala WOW, but understand that assumption is false. So I went to Blizzard to purchase another license and get the warning "You already have the maximum number of StarCraft II licenses for this game region." After some research it SEEMS I need to authenticate this second license in another region??? I'm a bit confused. Thanks for any clarification!

I just want to be able to play the game as much I want OFFLINE without it expiring to where I have to authenticate it online. It would be nice to where I can use my authenticated copy of SC2 on a laptop and play it when and where ever I want.

What do we do if we want to change our Screen Name to get back to an an unplayed record? I have no problems with this authentication business, but we should definately have the freedom to change screen names so we can build up a new record.

Example below on the change.

I have 2 battle.net accounts.
1. of which has 4 wow accounts and 1 Starcraft 2 account on it.
account.

2. only has 1 wow account on it.

account 1 & 2 have different logins / passwords to login. but shard the same authenticator.
they have disabled the feature of having 2 battle.net accounts to 1 authenticator do to phishing. the authenticator was suppose to function as a 1 time use. once that 6 digit # was input it would not work again for that same account. but there was a loop hole. if somehow you were hacked and they had you login/ password. then the next time you logged into your main account. they would see it and snatch up that pin as you put it in. your logged in your main. while the hacker at the same time uses the same 6 digit # on your 2nd account. and it works for the 90 sec window. thats pretty much the only way people were hacked that used authenticators.

my main account w/ 4 wow accounts and 1 starcraft 2 on it will all run off the same authenticator. they are all on the same battle.net account.

id have to get a new one for my 2nd account if i wanted to use one on that account.

so basically their saying you can only have 1 sc2 lisence per account? whod want more than one i mean really unless you have one just to beat on noobs (which is a sign of permanent noobism) there really shouldnt be a problem

@starwarsnerd: They're saying you can have as many licenses per account as you want, but you will no longer be able to attach ONE authenticator to more than ONE account. Did we read the same post?

@starwarsnerd: No, you can only have one authenticator tied to 1 sc2 or wow license. Meaning if you tie it to your wow account, it cannot be tied to your starcraft2 account. Or if you have two wow accounts, you'll need two authenticators to over them both.

Most often it just comes from people not being careful. Other times it comes in the form of keyloggers that people have added to UI mods or the like. (WoW) If people are careful where they download information and keep their passowrds strong, secure, and not shared between accounts they shouln't have much to worry about. Authenticator adds a level of security and their's nothing wrong with that. It's good to know my account is better protected with authenticator if someone were to get my password.

@warpingBean: Not so much, no. Keyloggers, users with 'simple' passwords, and people who use shared passwords with other services are at risk. Not to mention you're only as secure as your email, so if someone hacks that, they can easily do a password reset and your account is now theirs.

I recommend that you keep the product key that you used to register your games. Just in case something does happen to your account you can email blizzard. They keep track of which product key was used to registered to a certain account. I have my product keys safely guarded.
