Getting Dropped

Edit: Never mind. I thought the Mercy TD drop was triggered by making too many “tower” units. Tonight was my first time playing, and I got dropped when making more towers than I had previously, but further testing shows that this isn’t the cause.

I have this happen all the time when I play Mercy TD. That is the only map I get dropped from. I'm reformatting my machine right now so I'll post the specs soon. I've also contacted the map creators but received no response.

I've noticed there is no certain thing that causes it to drop. Sometimes mid game, sometimes just a few minutes after it starts. I've only made it to an extended game once. Also, it doesn't really seem to be when there are a lot of units either.

Another question, does this happen when you play just yourself against the AI or against other SC2 players? This might help a bit for our research.

I'm on a MacBook Pro and Split TD and Mercy TD are definitely dropping me a lot. I've seen on several occasions when multiple people get dropped at the same time. When asked, they have confirmed they're also using Apple computers.

I've done a little bit of testing against no other SC2 players and haven't dropped in any of those so far.

Any help concerning this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

i personally have never tried games involving an AI player. i've always played with real people, thus always get dropped from games involving only real people. it doesnt matter if its a 3v3 game, or 3v2 or 2v3 or 3v1 or 1v3 or 2v1 or 1v2 or 1v1, you get the idea... it happens about 98.9% of the time.

blues, mercy td cannot be played against the ai. i've been dropped in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 on this map nearly every time. i've noticed from the replays that when playing terran there is a greater statistical probability that it will drop when people are able to make bandits. however, i have been dropped as all races at completely random times, and only make it to late game about 5% of the time or less.

you've said that you've got people working on this... yet you dont even know how to play this map.

please just post how to view a log or error report so the users can find a fix because its been months and you guys have done nothing.

It can be set to play against the AI, but it's not the same as you suggested (sitting and doing nothing I suppose). I played this with a co-worker and I wasn't DC'd by the end of the match the few times I played. I'm not QA or anything, I just relay the information. Our team is still working on this trying to see what is going on, which is why we requested the additional information. Since this is a 3rd party map, we have limited support for this. I'll pass on this additional information and see what additional information we can request from y'all to see what we can do.

I play side by side with another imac and mercy TD drops us almost every game both of us the same exact time. We also play Split td and it has dropped maybe once from the 7 or so times where as Mercy td drops every single time almost.grrrrrrr

Wow, sorry I haven't checked back on this thread. I guess I assumed it'd never be seen.

Anyway, if you'd like to recreate this, simply log on a Mac, get on Starcraft II, join a Mercy TD game against live players, and play the game as any other player would. I can't tell you exactly how long you'll have to wait, but eventually you'll get a message saying "You have been dropped." and your only option is to quit. There have been games that I've lasted hours for, but a vast majority of the time it lasts about 5-15 minutes.

Would it help to supply replays that ended in a drop?

Actually we finally got it to be recreated for Mercy TD. We do have the data now and we are looking into this. Any progress I will be updating here, but at least we have the data now to recreate it.

pls update us. are u sure 1 dataset is enough considering how random it is?

It does seem genuinely random—how do you recreate it? But I suppose that doesn’t matter if you’re able to fix it.

We've manage to replicate the issue, so the exact cause is still being looked into. No ETA on fix, but as soon as I get an update I will ping this back.

There was a notable theory on one of the other forums called Mercy TD Discussion. He managed to duplicate the issue and deduced that it is sometimes cause by the mass upgrading of basic towers to stronger towers that sometimes causes this. I believe his theory may be correct. He is not a mod or any special Blizzard personal so I would like to recommend him if you need any help, though I do not know this person in real life.

I would also like to add that this happens to me in most, if not all the Split TD games I play with 4+ players. Sometimes it gets down to the last 2 people and then I drop, or it could be as early as the 4th round.

I see other players who drop at the same time as me and when I ask them afterwards if they play on a mac, they tell me they do, 100% of them.

Thanks for telling those who can fix it!! :)
