The Guide to Zerg Guides

(Sticky)

I'm writing this for all the players new to the amazingness known as Zerg, for all Zerg players looking to improve their Zerg know how, as well as for myself, so I can condense all the helpful links I know of into one linkable post.

I'd like to thank everyone I mention/link here for all the help you've given me along with the rest of the Zerg community, If I could sticky every one of your threads to the top of the forum I would and the world would be a better place for it, but this is the best I can do for now.

Hatch first is much better in ZvZ than that build. That build is exceedingly greedy with its lair timing, imo.

To avoid confusion, I'm hesitant to add specific strategies and stick to guides. The only reason #194 and #208 were added was because they were basic enough to act as a stand alone guide.

However, were you to create a guide of all ZvZ specific strats or all Zerg specific Day[9] dailys, I'd be more than happy to include the link.

I understand your point, but must disagree.

While that particular show is focused on ZvZ and a specific ZvZ build, it also has a lot of good information about building placement, defending against early aggression and a practical example of how to develop and apply an overall strategy to your game. That the specific example is ZvZ is almost incidental to what is being discussed.

In that video, Day9 discusses a strategy - get to lair, then use superior technology to counter and destroy the opponent. Given this strategy, how do we develop and use a build to get us to that point? He explains the working backwards logic, starting from 'need lair fairly quick' back to the decision to single base and to use building placement and a handful of units to successfully defend his single base while teching to lair, tying everything back to the overarching strategy of quick lair tech to dominate the opponent.

To me, Day9 235 is a logical progression from 194 and 208 in learning how to play Zerg. 194 discusses the basic mechanics of building an effective Zerg economy. This lays out the basics of how Zerg play should look and what the balance is between workers and units. 208 builds on this, covering how to move around the map, how to monitor your opponent and how to maintain economic discipline while attacking and defending. 235 adds a new layer, developing an overall strategy and tailoring your gameplay to reach that strategy. In it, you should be applying the lessons of 194 and 208 to achieve what is discussed in 235.

tl;dr: Day9 235 concentrates on developing and implementing a strategy for gameplay. That the strategy is specific to ZvZ is incidental to the discussion of strategy.

Day[9] daily #235 has been added due to an overwhelming inflow of logic and good wordplay.

I'd also like to encourage people to post more guides for me to add.

Like Catechin said Hatch first in ZvZ is much better than Day's build.

In ZvZ im gonna Hatch first. If i see you teching to Lair super quick ill use my 1st 100 Gas on lair and 2nd 100 gas on speed instead of vice vera how i normally do it. Then yes you might be slightly ahead of me on lair timing but my economy is gonna be light years ahead of yours because i have been producing nothing but drones off two base while you have been on one. I can then Pump roaches while teching to infestors to shut down any possible air play.

Days build is perfect for countering any form of one base play but imo will be crushed by a Macro Oriented FE build
