Topic Running Starcraft 2 on the new MacBook Pro 13

I'm thinking about buying the new 13 inch MacBook Pro. The specs are as following
2.7GHz dual-core
Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz
Intel HD Graphics 3000

I know the graphics card isn't that great but I was wondering how this is going to run Starcraft 2?

My advice would be to go to the Apple Store near you and ask them. If you bring the game with you, they will let you try it out to see. They are very helpful folk, those Apple Store people. :)

works great on low settings. On medium is barely playable

Buy it dude. I got one with even a 2.3 GHz processor and I'm running high settings with no problems (though for some reason red and blue are switched sometimes I'm trying to figure that one out)

The Intel HD 3000 is an ok - ish. . . card, but don't expect to run it on anything above medium in OSX. I have a macbook pro with an 8600m GT, which is rated to have nearly the same performance as the HD 3000. Unlike the HD 3000, the 8600m GT has dedicated memory, while the HD3000 uses memory from the main system RAM, which is less efficient, and will have an impact on performance.

If you want to use any mac laptop for gaming, go for the macbook pros at the 15 inch size or more. Either that, or be ready to intall windows on your mac. I play starcraft 2 on Windows on my mac, and the performance is much faster at the same settings. On windows, I am typically able to have all medium settings, while on the mac side, I have to set everything to low to acheive playability. Starcraft 2 might work better in windows on an HD3000, so if you do get that macbook, give my suggestion a try.

Just as an FYI, the Intel HD 3000 is the equivalent to the Nvida 320m. It is one of the best on-board chip sets I have seen, and will run Sc2, just not as well as allot of full cards out on the market for Macs.

The above post by your fellow players is awesome and the best remarks you can hope for. They are knowledgeable and polite.

I thank you all for your post and hope all your games are Victorious!!!!!

I have a MacBook 2011 with the Intel HD 3000, i7, and 8GB ram. I can play SC2 really well. Very playable on low settings. The most I've done are 3v3s and it doesn't even lag on huge engagements.

Couple things to note:
- Mouse acceleration in Mac OS makes SC2 unplayable. I play on Boot Camp'ed Windows 7 (with external keyboard and mouse since Fn key is in the bottom left instead of Ctrl key).
- Laptop might get hot. Even though I don't *need* to, I use a laptop cooler.

This will be taken care of in a future update. If you have the PTR for SC2, try testing it on 1.4.

By this do you mean the mouse acceleration problem will be addressed in a future patch?

EDIT: sorry about that necro

This actually has been implemented in 1.4 patch.

Mouse Acceleration
-You can uncheck "Set Mouse Sensitivity" so that the game won't change the mouse acceleration.
