Hey all,
We have put a number of fixes in place to address the previous performance issues created by patch 1.4.0 but we will still need information from anyone for whom 1.4.1 did not fix their performance issues. In order to assist in this investigation we're asking you to post your System Profiler/Information if you have noticed an FPS drop since 1.4.1 so we can consolidate and compare reports. Game drops framerate almost to the point of freezing (1 or 2 fps) during various moments in battles with around 30 units or more, both online matches and offline against AI, pretty much unplayable. Used to be completely fluid with the same settings pre 1.4, and the computer works flawlessly in many other games.

FPS drops to 1-2 during battles. It essentially freezes until all my units are dead, sad face!!!
I can sorta play on low, although its kinda ugly. Looking forward to the fix, as I am itching to pwn and be pwned! Thanks blue! I've never posted about an issue so many times in so many forums... Regardless- I'm thankful that you guys are trying to fix this. However, I do not see my variables file. After I go into Application Support, Blizzard is not there. Suggestions?
Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 OS: 10.6.8 AMD Radeon HD 6750 1024 MB and Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB Prior to patch 1.4 I was able to play on whatever settings I wanted without any lag/stuttering. Since patch 1.4 the game is unplayable on Medium even, frame rate drops to around 5 or below at times (although it starts out at above 100). I am able to play on low if I lower my resolution down as well, although it commonly still drops to 15 or so. Help with variables? (I believe I remember seeing it before I deleted files and re-installed- hoping it would help). 1.4.1 doesn't seem to have made any difference for me. Thanks. |

Select library (will only be visible if you hold down option) then click application settings, then blizz, then sc2, then itll be there. Crushdog helped me on this one. There are different library folders. This is the way to find it. |

My fps sits at 59 for 10-15 sec then drops to..0? The game will stutter/hic-up for 1-2sec then back to normal.

This is a new computer, so I don't have pre-1.4.1 data to compare to. No problems on my PC before or after the patch. On my new 27" iMac, I get bad stuttering, especially when there are a lot of units on the screen. Otherwise, 60+ fps, then it drops to zero for a second or two. This occurs more frequently when the screen is busy. During the game opening, it's less severe.
Hope you can fix this, I love this computer, but I feel crappy because SC2 is so much worse on it because of this. As per TonyM's request (http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3279043181) I am re-posting some of my own observations and system info into this thread.
--- I have been having moderate to severe lag/FPS issues since the release of 1.4. I have already posted in the data collection thread, but I wanted to note some of my own anecdotal observations. (I am running SC2 on an iMac: 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB ram, Nvidia GeForce GT 130 graphics card.) Observations I can usually play a few games without significant issues, however, the longer SC2 has been running, the more prone to performance issues, it seems to get. Most games start smoothly enough, but begin to get choppy as time goes on, often becoming unplayable by the 6-10 minute mark. Issues are worse on some maps than others. Xel'naga Caverns seems particularly bad for some reason. The performance is much worse in 3v3 games than in 1v1 with performance issues from the outset. The lag/FPS often takes a nosedive as I gain vision of/attack/get attacked by enemy units, sometimes to the point where I am counting seconds per frame as opposed to FPS. Random Theorizing: Performance issues may be connected to SC2 client/server communication. Is there a particular range at which one client will begin receiving certain kinds of information about the actions of other players on the map? If so, this would explain why there would be more issues on a smaller map, like Xel'Naga Caverns and still more pronounced issues on team maps where multiple players spawn right beside one another. It would also explain why games get progressively worse as time goes on and there are more actions and units for the game to keep track of. One question that remains is, why do subsequent matches see increasingly severe latency or FPS issues? I seem to recall that soon after launch, I was having issues where the campaign would crash after longer stretches of play. My FPS goes a little like this:
Loading Screen - anywhere from 0 to 16, might have always been this way though, not a big deal. In Game - it sits consistently between about 28-30 (which is fine), then suddenly it will drop to something like 0-2 for a couple of seconds (often during battles, fairly constantly when cancelling a zerg building (eg. extractor) - it seems to come up when more graphical tasks are required). Then after those few seconds it shoots right back up to 28-30 until the next drop (which can be almost instantly at times). I have a MacBook Pro Laptop and use a Logitech mouse, I do not use any Razor equipment at all. Frame rate is typically >45 FPS pre-patch, and as of 1.4 (and 1.4.1) new units spawning and all battles have FPS drop to 1-2 (or total FPS freeze) for a few seconds. Hope this helps.

FPS drops to 1-2 during battles and when warping units, it's not playable anymore. It only occurs when supply reach more than 100-120. Used to run high settings, now it drops even on medium. I'll try on low.. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Horrible FPS lag during battles mainly, but also at other times. i.e. 1-2 FPS. Apart from that, game runs smoothly. Happens on all settings, even low. Pretty much unplayable because I can't micro during even small engagements.

UPDATE - I was playing some games vs. AI last night (I don't want to ladder until this is fixed), and did NOT have the FPS stuttering problem. They were 1v1 on Xel'Naga and Sharukas. So either the problem is intermittent, or something changed. I had rebooted the machine fairly recently. I will try again tonight and see how it goes.
