Season 3 is coming to an end soon, and Season 4 is on the horizon. At the end of each ladder season, leagues are “locked” which means players can no longer be promoted or demoted out of their current league or division, and bonus pools will stop growing. That’s no reason to quit playing: even after leagues are locked, players will still be able to play out their remaining bonus pool and compete for standing within their divisions until the end of the season two weeks later. The match-making skill ratings which determine league promotion and demotion will also continue to update during the lock, so games played during the lock still count toward league placement in Season 4.
The Season 3 lock will go into effect the week of October 10th. Season 3 will officially end, and Season 4 will begin on the week of October 24th. Season milestone rewards will be locked in at this time, and bonus pools will start over. Hidden skill ratings used for matchmaking and league placement will carry over from the previous season, so players who have completed placement matches in a previous season will only need to play one new placement match after Season 4 starts. Beginning with Season 4, there are two changes coming to future ladder seasons: • Each season will now last for approximately two months • Grandmaster league placement time will be reduced to one week (from two weeks) to account for the reduced season length. |

what's the point of 2 month seasons? well this is just annoying to me :P i have to work full time and i only play on the weekends every time i play it's like i'm having to regain lost ground. oh well. |

I really don't like these shorter seasons. Season 3 just barely begun and now you're telling me it's almost done? I don't feel like I've accomplished much at all this season.
Although this is perhaps due to the fact that I have absolutely no way of tracking my progress other than how many wins I've earned. What does that tell me? That I win sometimes and not others? How many games have I played this season? What are my individual win percentages against specific races? How am I doing on the maps on which I play? How much has my APM and resource management improved? These are things competitive ladder players like me would like to know. This is what motivates me to continue laddering; not shorter seasons; not the removal of losses and win percentages. I laddered more this season than last because I had the goal of making it into Masters league before the season's end. Thanks to a competitive division, I'm constantly battling for the #1 spot, so I feel that I'm close to being promoted. I don't have much time during the week to play because I, like many other people, have a job. I can only play a handful of games per day. I also have my good days, where I just kick !@# and rack up more and more wins; but I also have my bad days, where I am on a losing streak and am too stubborn to call it quits for the day. But now you're telling me that the ladder will be soon--much sooner than I had expected. I won't have time, especially with what's going on in my life within the next few weeks, to practice and get my MMR high enough to be promoted before the season ends. I guess I'll have to revise my goal and change the deadline to a more vague "by the end of the year, hopefully." The lack of progress reporting is discouraging already, but with the season ending in three weeks and the ladder being locked next week, I'm suddenly finding it even more discouraging to continue laddering. I love SC2 and enjoy laddering. I love improving myself on the ladder, learning new strategies, practicing my mechanics and micro and macro, experimenting with the latest balance tweaks, and overall becoming a better player. I just feel like the competitive atmosphere is being slowly but surely removed in an effort to coddle the more casual crowd. That, I believe, is a major step in the wrong direction. The casual crowd will come and go, as they always do. However, we, the dedicated players who will spend hour after hour, week after week, month after month to improve our play, will continue to support this game and this company. |

IIRC Warcraft 3 had lots of stats to !@#$%^-*!e over. Even something as simple as showing win percentages for maps and for the various matchups, and average apm would be much appreciated. :) |
