Hello, after trying to login today Starcraft is hanging while trying to to submit the system survey. I'm running OSX and i've tried to repair permissions and starcraft it's self. Any clue what this might be? I've also restarted.

kanetheninja,

You might have better luck with the Mac Technical Support section for this issue. I've flagged this thread to be moved there to save you the trouble of creating a new one.

You can try the solutions here: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/2593040289#18

Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

Thanks Geeyawn. We're investigating this, and we need more information. If anyone else has this issue, please post here for Macs.

  • Obtaining System Information
      1. Hold the "Option" Key and choose "System Profiler/Information" from the Apple Menu.

      2. Copy the information from the following sections:
Hardware (remove the Serial Number line)
      Graphics/Displays
Software (remove the Computer Name and User Name lines)

  • Also, can you tell me what services are being allowed for your OS X firewall, of if the firewall is off?

  • Finally, if you are on a router, have you enabled the ports on your router's firewall to allow Starcraft II to play? (You will need to allow traffic over ports 6881 - 6999, 1119, 1120, 3724, 4000, 6112, 6113, and 6114 for both TCP and UDP).

  • Thanks!

I am currently having this same issue. I have tried modifying the com.blizzard.Starcraft II Retail.survey.prefs file to '443' and all the other methods like modifying permissions, but it's still not working. Everything was working fine until Thursday or Friday of this last week for me. That is until the system survey came out. The router and ports are all correct. I just want a way to opt out of this stupid survey.

    Hello Everyone,

Thanks for all who submitted their information here and though support tickets on Battle.net. I wanted to follow-up and give an update on this matter. We're still investigating this and will be looking to address it.

This is what we have found that is most likely the cause based on the data gathered.

This issue appears to be happening on Macs with the graphics cards (aka GPU) showing a generic value for the graphic card model in the system profiler. This should normally show the full model identifier (4850, 6630m, 5770, etc).

This can happen for 3 different reasons.
Reason #1:The Mac is built using non-standard Apple hardware and/or modifying the OS to work on unsupported set-ups.
Reason #2: Drivers for the graphic cards you are running are not properly installed.
    • This happens sometimes if you have a Mac Pro with a graphics card (like Nvidia) and then you swap out to a different graphic card (to a AMD/ATI card). You can download/install the latest combo/delta update to resolve this.
    • Reason #3: Using a card that that is not set up to work on a Mac (A PC graphics card that isn’t Mac ready with proper EFI).

Reason #3 seems to be more common, especially with any AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6000 series cards on Lion. Here is a bit more about reason #3:
The Mac Pro, as with other Mac platforms, requires Mac OS X firmware. That is to say, a PCIe video card designed exclusively for other operating systems will not work properly under Mac OS X without appropriate drivers and/or firmware; however, they will work under the operating systems they were designed for, if installed via Boot Camp or other means. Some video cards and other hardware accessories not marketed for Macs can nonetheless be tricked into compatibility through flashing drivers from either similar Mac hardware or with a custom firmware onto non-supported hardware. Also, AMD released the ATI Radeon HD 3870, which is compatible with both Mac Pros and PCs from other manufacturers. The Radeon HD 6XXX series of Graphics Processors (excluding 69XX), also released by AMD in 2010, will work without being flashed under Mac OS X if the user has installed drivers from Mac OS X Lion.

Not to be a pain or anything, but why wouldn't you make the system survey optional? At the very least an out of the way method for bypassing? It just blows my mind that error correction wasn't implemented here and over something as insignificant as a system survey. I can accept that I don't have a cookie cutter build in my computer, but when it will run the game with ZERO issues, and crash and burn because of a survey?? That's just poor code guys.

I'd highly recommend the 10.7.2 combo update, whch is do to come out later today, it may solve some of these rpoblems, it contains a lot newer drviers and contains a lot more generic IDs, while not officially supported by mac dev team. http://netkas.org/ and other sites have noticed considerable progress using the 10.7.2 drivers to make unofficial cards work better, as apple continues to add more generic IDs to the drivers. I am hoping that in future the generic IDs appearing in the drivers soon means eventually apple may support those cards for real. The custom EFIs that make our cards always a year behind suck. I hate that ati 7000 series will be out soon andmac doesn't even haev official high end 6000s yet for mac pros.

I'd suggest you seek some help on http://netkas.org/ or tony mac hackintosh boards though about your driver support tho as i don't expect blizz will be of much help to you beyond this point.

Do we have an ETA on the next patch? Thanks for taking the time to update us and also for your hard work on the fix.

It is frustrating that the game is broken for a number of us. I haven't been able to play online since Friday last week.
