Topic Does Blizzard care?

Blizzard... ive been with you for bout 7 years and ive always loved your games. But starcraft 2 seems to dissapoint me the most. I always loved playing the original starcraft and Warcraft 3 because they had great customs and a good variety. but in starcraft 2 the custom system is TERRIBLE. People have been complaining about this since the game came out. Does blizzard even care? This has to be fixed now.

Of course they care. They've made several pretty big change to the map system in patches, and while people at Blizzcon were dying to see Clan support, automated tournaments, and shared replays, improvements to the custom map system for HotS dominated the stage.

Now, you can argue those changes don't do anything to solve the issue - but I think it shows pretty well that they do care.

Big changes, the tabs? We got an up and coming list that places maps further down than the actual popularity list, we have a fun or not system that plays broken maps (at least moderate the maps!), and lobby bugs are dropping players left and right, crippling newer custom maps trying to emerge. Chat channels look horrible and are bothersome to use, just copy and paste code from the PM system, sloppy.

The refusal to do an open lobby system is purely based on lack of caring or too much planning for the arcade, the only other explanation is incompetence (please don't be offended by the applicability of that word, it means lack of know-how). They either don't want to do it, or can't. There is no other possible answer.

Why wait? Didn't we pay for the game? You said "people" were those blizzard people or fans? This is an ethical issue at this point for me, you're telling us that the fix is known and ready to be implemented, but not before we give them more money and faith? I'm not trolling, i'm asking why I paid for a beta of HOTS that I thought was SC2 Wings of Liberty!

Now, you can argue those changes don't do anything to solve the issue - but I think it shows pretty well that they do care.

About making sure people buy HOTS. Couldn't have clarified this better.

If they did care they would stop fixing minor things and focus on the big picture. The system needs to show game lobbies that are available so that we can play games that are below the 3rd list.

I guess I should not have made this post. =/ It is not worth the argument. If nothing short of making the system exactly how you want it is "caring", then yes, you could say they don't care.

I'll stick with it and clarify some of what I said anyway, but I don't mean this as fighting you so much as hopefully clarifying my original statement.

Your original statement was "This has to be fixed now." I think that they are trying to fix it. Does the fact that they aren't going about it the way you want mean they don't care? My opinion is no, just because they aren't doing it the way you think they should, does not mean they don't care.

If we have a fundamental difference of agreement right there, I won't argue it any further.

The system needs to show game lobbies that are available so that we can play games that are below the 3rd list.

I cannot say I am content with the map system either. I agree with some of the ideas you purpose. But thats not what I was arguing about. I was arguing about if they care or not.

The simple fact of how much development time they put in to changing it is to me, evidence that they "care" - if you think caring means following your demands, then we simply have differing ideas about "caring" means, not differing ideas about if they care or not.

Perhaps "big changes" was an overstatement; but its not as if they are ignoring the whole custom game system and refusing to change it. While it may not have big a change, it wasn't just a small tweak either.

The refusal to do an open lobby system is purely based on lack of caring or too much planning for the arcade, the only other explanation is incompetence (please don't be offended by the applicability of that word, it means lack of know-how). They either don't want to do it, or can't. There is no other possible answer.

Maybe it just means that they disagree about what the problem is and how to fix it? I suppose if that was the case, this falls under your label of "Incompetence" though. :P

You said "people" were those blizzard people or fans?

Fans. (Though probably both :P) Do you honestly believe that there aren't just as many or more fans who want clans then there are that want custom game system changes?

You're telling us that the fix is known and ready to be implemented, but not before we give them more money and faith? I'm not trolling, i'm asking why I paid for a beta of HOTS that I thought was SC2 Wings of Liberty!

They were concept pictures of how they want it to be, not completed work.

The question I expect you to ask is how long I can say "they care!" as they continue to go their direction while everyone continues to protest.

The answer is: I believe they think their system can still work, even though its implementation in WoL didn't quite work out. If they do it and find it simply can't work, I think they'll keep working on it until eventually they get it to a point people are happy with it - even if that means stepping away from their original plans.

Thank you for your candor and honesty. I appreciate it.

In a related way, we posted a significant issue here on these forums a couple days ago. We've been persistently bumping it and gathering information. I posted that thread again earlier today, only to see it redirected from technical forums back to the custom map forums, yet again without a response. The re-post merited a redirect but not a response. That wreaks of don't give a crud.

It's hard to argue against statements like "does blizzard care" for those of us who visit the bnet forums daily. We post here as loyal fans of their work and have been increasingly made to feel like our segment doesn't matter enough to merit a response.

How i want. How i want? What im trying to fight for is not just my opinion. This has been an ongoing problem that many people have been trying to fix for a long time. Its either they dont care or they do care, but are not telling the starcraft 2 fans that it will be fixed.

Actually, the best we get is this:

IF we do fix the current issue, it won't be till you pay for HOTS... Surprise you just paid for the HOTS beta, called Wings of Liberty!

So we have to wait months just to get an easy problem fixed? This is ridiculous.

This, apparently, is the new activision/blizzard.
Artanis #505

Blizzard doesnt need activision's help to fix BLIZZARD games. Activision has ruined MANY great games and starcraft 2 does not need to be one of them. If i get banned for posting all this stuff, then I dont really care. I will just go and protest this problem else where like on SC2mapster.

You're talking about http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/13437/ right? I'll try to bring it to their attention.

I was a WC3 mapper and I fiddle with the SC2 editor as well; I can definitely relate to you..But to be honest, Blizzard doesn't really post a whole lot in any forum section - with the majority of their posts going to General Discussion. They usually read all posts, but reply to few. Just the way they operate. I don't think lack of posts should be taken too hard. =/

Thank you for your candor and honesty. I appreciate it.

:o Thanks. Not the response I expected to get from you =)

I know, I just meant the communities opinion in general. They don't balance exactly how people in general discussion ask them to, either. :P

Yet again this brings me back to my point. Blizzard does not care enough to respond to questions or anything for that matter.

It really feels to me that Blizzard is just milking us... Battlenet 1.0 had clan support and many other features 2.0 doesn't have. >.<

Why they would remove such features and just add them back in an expansion sounds fishy...

I'll jump in on keeping this alive. The ridiculous lengths by which Blizz is avoiding any real customer service is just beyond description.
