Hotkeys - Unit Management - Special Abilities

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this on. If admin is reading it, please repost it to the right place.
PATCH Can Blizzard make a patch which would allow a player to use all of the special abilities of the selected units at the same time without having to change subgroups or use different control groups. E.g. If i select sentries, high templars and stalkers, i want to be able to use blink, storm and force fields simply by clicking a hotkey without having to change subgroups; having different control groups; or selecting units individually. Wouldn't that make unit management much easier? Please fix it. Thank you. |

I'm not an expert around here (first post in years), but I bet this is the wrong forum. ;)
this is just part of the learning curve of Starcraft, and has been since brood war. If you watch some pros, they either group their casters in a seperate army/control group/hotkey, and manage them that way. I gather you're a fellow protoss player, so I will give reasons that this isn't a bad thing in terms that we are both familiar with. There are three protoss units that this problem comes up with: Sentries, High Templar, and Stalkers Sentries: are useless if not in the main body of your army. Force Field has a fairly short range, and they need to be in the middle of the action for Guardian Shield to be effective, so you want these grouped with the rest of your army. Templar, on the other hand, are notoroiusly weak and slow. One marine can take out a templar in 6 game seconds of continuous fire, besides being much faster and costing 150 less gas. Templar need to be protected very carefully, never targeted by your opponent's troops, so it's smart to keep them in a separate control group and behind your army and take advantage of the fairly long range of Feedback and Storm. Stalkers serve two purposes in a protoss army, and should be grouped according to their purpose. If they are part of your main army, being able to hit the blink hotkey is not important, since you likely won't be blinking them all at once, instead clicking on them one at a time and microing back, or chasing down an opponent, in which case double clicking on a stalker should be easy enough. When you're using blink stalkers for harass, you need to be able to blink at a moments notice, so you would have them in a separate control group, which is fitting. This is just a long-fangled way to say that Blizzard could do something like this (theoretically, I know nothing about the game's underlying code that this would be involving), but it wouldn't really make a difference, because in a given situation, (at least as a protoss player) you want your caster units in separate control groups anyway. As an unrelated afterthought, there are probably several cases where two units have the same key binding for one ability. In fact, I know this is so for the people who use the grid style of binding keys (which I rather like and wish I could adapt to) |

This would be nice, but...
This would make micro too easy. This would make it so anybody could micro easily. Blizzard wants players to master micros using hot-keys. like all Templar in one hot-key, all sentries in another, stalkers other, Etc... This keeps the skill levels more balanced. Nice idea, I would like it because i'm not that good at micro, but this would make it too easy. |
