Topic A Starcraft (RTS) player also likes Anime

i like anime and I'm sure it's not too uncommon for most Nerds to also like anime.

Evangelion
Ghost in the Shell
Elfin Lied
Gundam wing

Are the reason I dislike anime.

Trigun and Samurai Champloo were entertaining, as was Berserk.

i can understand elfen lied but Eva? GitS?? THAT'S why you don't like anime?

Yes, I can't stand when animes try to get all philosophical but it's obvious the writers have no clue what they're talking about. Also when they try to appear deep by saying a bunch of #$%! that makes zero sense, but adding in some buzz words that probably make one or two mentally handicapped people go "oooooooh that's so truuuuue mannnnn"

you sound like you get into this argument with a lot of people.

did you watch Eva(and Gits) in the right order? (Eva series, zx.death.true2.renewal,rest of the Eva series, End of Eva...)

also the Gits dub isn't as clear as the sub.

Does philosophy have some answer I don't know about?
Doesn't matter to me, as long as it is interesting, that's the point of fiction right?

Of course, there's the possibility you just don't like thinking about such things.

No, he's right. Many anime will often try to pass off some bull!@#$ as something deep.

For example, those episodes of Ghost in the Shell where they sit around and discuss something. At the end of the day, it's just filler. Which is odd for a show with many episodes unrelated to the story arc. For the record, I liked Ghost in the Shell, but I couldn't stand those talking episodes.

Good writing shouldn't have to shove something down your throat to get you to think about it.

I kind of liked them, but your last point is true.
However, plenty of good writing loses its meaning in a sea of analysis, due to not being clear.
I hated almost every book they made us read in high school, even though they were considered "good writing."

there are a lot of episodes and movies to those series that go with the story and it sounds like you are dismissing those series just because of the philosophy, when there is more to them than that.

Fullmetal Alchemist (one of the few good things left on the planet)
Code Geass
Death Note
Blood +
Trigun
Gurren Lagann was great in Japanese, utter crap in English. Had the most explosive and mind blowing ending of any anime I've ever seen.

I've seen A LOT of anime, and only these series are really good from beginning to end imo. I own most of those and would be willing to buy the ones I don't have. I hate Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood with a fiery (and kind of unreasonable) passion that can only be explained by how much I worship the original series. It's strange to be passionate about an anime series but I've seen the original FMA 7 times through and Brotherhood makes me want to claw my eyes out. Every time I try to get into a debate about the two shows I end up getting upset or something. I just really, really like the original FMA xD

Regardless of whether or not I'm willing to buy series or just view them once via netlix or tv, I'll always be a fan of anime, even the crappy stuff.

I love anime that don't go into the hundreds of episodes (Bleach, DBZ, etc.). Those series got old a long time ago. I think the most beautiful thing about anime is that most series are in the 26-episode range, maybe up to 50, which is long enough to get immersed, but not too long where either a) you get bored of the concept, or b) you have to devote an inordinate amount of time to it. Yu Yu Hakusho is the longest anime I enjoy, and that barely topped 100 episodes.

Would have been better had the three Kings Saga been expended to be the same as Chapter Black... but the Mangaka was sick and tired at the time and ended the manga early hence the less then stellar ending.
