Who care about Umoja...And KMC...
Think UED know what happen in BW. Didn't SCI BW said UED have been watching K-Sector? Before losing to combined effort of Terran, Protoss, and Kerrigan, did expeditionary force keep contact with UED back on Earth or communication range's too low?
Too bad that we don't know what real UED technology look like.
Agreed the UED were the best they were a real dictatorship , power hungry , uncompromising and disciplined.
The Dominion comes off as a weak cowardly organization that lacks any real sophistication. Though I do give them some credit for artistic style.
Protoss had promise with their whole empire thing but after the collapse of Aiur they've become just a bunch of goody two shoes. They don't seem to have any expansionist plans and are way too pro human for my taste.
Zerg are just drooling animals not much can be said for them as an empire.
The Confederacy was just a bunch of civil war wannabees they felt even more primitive than the dominion.
What I want to see is the UED return en masse during HotS or LotV. It seems like they've just forgotten all about their defeat. Even if they never got Dugalle's message, wouldn't they like to know why an entire fleet was almost completely obliterated and did not report back to Earth?
It would be pretty cool if the UED made a come back. But they should really put a few differences into their units so it feels like they came from a different place. Maybe a few unit swap outs. Like thor with Goliath (or something like that), viking with wraith, battle crusier with something.
Or at the very least give some of their units different in game 3d models, unlike brood war. It didn't feel like they were from a different place at all.

To all those who cite the atrocities committed by the UNL (The UED's precursor) I would like to quote a passage from the Starcraft Novel Liberty’s Crusade:
"The marines?" sputtered Mike. "The Confederate Marines are the biggest collection of criminals in the known universe, outside of the Tarsonis City Council."
"Mike, please. Everyone has some criminal blood in them. Hell, all the planets of the Confederacy were settled by exiled convicts."
"Yeah, but most people like to think we grew out of that."
This conversation took place shortly before the events of Starcraft 1.
My point is that enough time had passed since the exile for extensive cultural change, so if the Koprulu exiles were able to move on from their shady past, there is no reason UNL could not have done the same. The UNL may have been a nightmarish dictatorship, but there is no indication throughout Brood War that it had STAYED THAT WAY.
P.S. Before you call foul about most of the exiles being convicts, Mike Liberty was obsessively factual according to the lore, so his candid agreement indicates that the statement was true. That said, I will admit that this source is vary dated. (It came out in 2001!)
The UED is just as much a brutal dictatorship as the Confederacy or the Dominion. It is probably a lot more Effective.
Basically UED=effective police state
Confederacy=loosely organized police state
Dominion=personal military dictatorship
And while the UED might not be the same as the UPL, they specifically reorganized because of alien threat. (And I've never heard of societies reorganizing to become more equal and open to respond to a threat... particularly if they weren't already)
And they seemed incapable of tolerating any thing not under their control (humans should be conquered, aliens eliminated)
That said, the UED does seem more open to psionics and genetic modifications than the UPL was. (ie they use them as opposed to purifying them) However, the 'religion of humanity' still dominates.
(The only 'semi'-decent society in the SC universe seems to be the Umojan Protectorate..which never shows up and is barely mentioned in the game, apparently their protection works well)

@Page 2, not naming names:
Please tell me 'paranoia man' is not what you actually think that is called. Please. Modern humanity can't be this stupid...
Oh, even better, a 'show, don't tell' comment. Because that's totally a real rule that all of the best authors follow, amirite?
