StarCraft® II

[Video Guide] Brutal Campaign Walk-through

Hey guys TheThinkingGamer here (as soon as I get my free name change that is),

I have begun a most epic video project to complete the campaign (again) on brutal difficulty but this time around I aim to record it and offer commentary on how you too can earn that nifty (and sexy) little portrait to the left of my name up there.

Stay tuned and be patient as more videos are coming but they aren't exactly easy to make :)

I will update this post as new videos are finished and uploaded.

Please up-vote this to the right so that it stays near the top and gets more views by people who need the guides!

NOTE: These videos may contain some spoilers, so be warned if you don't want anything revealed (although I do tend to skip all the cinematics and just get into the game)

Ahh well that would suck, even ThinkingGamer is 13 characters! (One too long for the mathematically challenged)

Maybe I could go with TtG or TtGamer

I'm really liking Starcraft2, in the sense that I'm discovering new things about it all the time. Watching these videos has shown me how important base control is at the brutal level (even at hard, it's pretty important too). It wasn't difficult to zerg the normal campaign, but at hard and brutal, you end up paying for letting your base administration skills slide.

I watched Evacuation with particular interest, because that's where I'm hung up on Hard right now. It seems to be a nice gut check, because not being able to get your economy up and units up in a quick efficient manner often results in FAILURE and RAGEQUIT. :) The art of always having your base and workers doing something is something I still need a lot of practice on, and it was really cool to see it in action. I look forward to your next videos!

I finished Smash and Grab plus The Devils Playground before going there. Reapers + medics that can be built with reactors is like instant win. Not to mention you most likely get access to Mercs.

Simply put: reaper/marine/medic. Load both pre-built bunkers and add 1 more with each. The reason I suggest reapers is because of their mobility and they get bonus damage against both zerglings and hydralisks. With medics healing them, a decent sized group of reapers can quickly waste anything that attacks the transports.

Also they kill the nydus worms in quick fashion :)

Never occurred to me to do missions in specific orders so as to unlock units in a more logical fashion! Bravo!

I did fail Evacuation a couple times before taking a crack at and beating Smash & Grab. Upgraded bunkers and medics definitely helped on Evac, but I can definitely see base management as a weakness of mine. Found I was not keeping my base active nor pumping units well, and I would swiftly get overrun. I switched to Grid hotkeys and I'm now trying to build muscle memory. :) Breaking those habits that serve a casual setting well but get #@*@@slapped at more challenging levels.

Great video. Still looking to shave enough time to get the Hard achievement on that one.

Also, Evacuation is now complete. All through improved base administration. I do like how you mention that you don't even really need to utilize the bunkers. I probably need to just stick troops in front of the one up top, because I tend to lose that one quickly and miss the achievement.

I got 6 and 7 finished but not commentated, I'm going to work on commentating them today and uploading them.

As far as game-play the great train robbery and welcome to the jungle are definitely going to slow me down as I had to play those two many time before I got through them the first time around.

    "Pulls out hair" :)

Hey what are you spending your credits on in the armory?

I've found that most walkthroughs, aside from being exceptionally vague, never comment upon when to get a certain upgrade and the reason for doing so. That and I have yet to run across a walkthrough that gave the most optimum mission route. I've enjoyed experimenting thus far but I'm certain there are players out there who would appreciate an extra few hints thrown into the mix.

I'm impressed, Orb! And also 3120 isn't a small number! Thanks for doing this!

I took a few hours to sift through your videos concerning Control Groups/Hotkeys, Scouting methods and optimum build orders and even taking the basic information obtained from them saw a noticeable improvement in my ability. They're insightful and unabashedly nerdy which is always a nice mix. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for future videos concerning the Brutal campaign in the event I find myself stuck on one yet again. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
