Bonus Damage from Spell Damage

As far as I can tell 1 spell damage translates to 1 damage on spells. But take for example psionic storm - it ticks 8 times, so the overall damage is 1 spell damage = +8 damage. Yamato cannon however would still only receive +1 damage overall. How can I change how much extra damage a spell receives from spell damage (if I can at all...)?

bump...

we need a way to add a scale from damage modifiers. so slow casting spells can gain a higher % of damage modifiers than faster casting spells... same for dots and such
