With the launch of the Arcade in 1.5.0, a few of the nearest and dearest from the StarCraft II development team will be joining us on the forums and focusing on answering questions about custom map development. If you have any technical questions about the editor or the publishing process, these folks should be able to provide you with some help and guidance.
Please give a warm welcome to Deletarius, Revilloso, Artestru, Xuzaca, Rotidecs, and Tenarsis! |

So sorry to hear you're having problems, Supermike. :( The best place to get direct help with your particular issue would be through our support team or our Technical Support forum. The developers joining us here will be helping with issues related to the Arcade and custom map creation. |

What happened to the Salt maps? I can't find any under custom maps, and I've tried the search bar. Nothing's popping up. I had downloaded a few of the maps pre-patch 1.5, but not they're all gone.
Does anyone know what happened to them? |
|
It appears that the mod directory has be reformatted and in the process, any maps/mods that were contained in there were wiped without a backup prompt.
Luckily, I back up MOST of my mods to Google Drive, but it was still a devastating blow. A warning/prompt would have been nice :( |

Are you aware of the new texture bugs caused by 1.5? Mainly with custom models using original textures but some other cases occur.

Excellent! Especially if they're here to stay, this could greatly bolster the quality of the custom map forums and help out a good deal. Welcome!
My current issue, although minor, is that I seem to be unable to edit the loading screen tips.. Manually changing the field under Map -> Loading Screen -> Help only displays one tip, where a editing them under Data -> Game UI doesn't seem to do anything. (The original tips still appear) |

Since the beginning, map makers can't use any of the new keyboard/mouse triggers due to the input lag issue. This is stopping a lot of good new maps to come out, specially FPS and fast arcade games.
A lot of time ago you talked about the possibility to rework the netcode and allow input triggers to have the same low delay as abilities do, but it requires a lot of development efforts to change it. After this gorgeous patch I think that the real issue that's blocking the upcome of new awesome games is the input lag. Are you going to fix it anytime soon? Maybe with Hots? |

It would be amazing if blizzard could do this Saturday out of each month, would really help the mapping community as a whole.
Also it would help if we could submit our maps to you guys and you could feature 1-3 maps for 1 week at a time. Now for my question, How do I make heroes with the new Heroes tab? |

Couple of questions from SC2mapster, from folks without NA accounts:
Mozared asks: Can't post on US. If someone can ask in my name: are there any plans to give us access to doodads that can be turned around their axis (i.e. make a table that lies on its side), like we had in the WarCraft 3 editor? I realize this can be done with data editing, but that requires you to take some pretty drastic steps whereas in War3 you could instantly turn any doodad at your command around. Its a good question -- I've heard a lot of terrainers complain about the same thing! zorbotron asks: Somebody ask them: I am particularly wondering about custom campaigns, multi-player campaigns specifically. Pre-beta they said this was planned, and I was hugely excited for it -- and now it seems to be forgotten entirely. I would also like to second Bibendus -- lag for controls like that have put down a lot of my own ideas, as well as other maps that have tried it that I could not enjoy because of the lag. Also, before I pass along (or ask) any more questions like that: Are you guys going to be passing out information about upcoming features or replying to questions that are essentially feature requests -- or are you going to reply only to questions about how the editor works? |

Hi,
Question 1: with the newest 1.5 patch it seems like its not possible to open custom maps by dragging them on the starcraft.exe file anymore, since it seems like the new launcher is somehow overwriting the map load. Is it possible to re-add support for this feature? It was very useful to quickly test a map without having to open it with the editor. Question 2: Is there any chance that further code-optimizing is done for the editor? I noticed that syntax highlighting and loading of huge lists for like images/sounds was improved alot, but im curious if it would be possible to make the GUI a little more responsive (It gets very laggy when working within libs) or improving the map/mod load time (especially trigger-validation). Question 3: Are there any plans to make banks server-side? This would make it possible for players to keep their save-files even when switching computers, since they would be attached to their accounts. Also it would make it impossible to "hack" bank-files and cheat in custom games by modifying their values. Also: Is there any chance that the bank-size limit is increased so its possible to load more values in multiplayer games? It seems like bank files are very limited as of right now, what makes it very hard to store more data for big projects like RPGs. |

Question 1: According to Tolkfan, this can still be done using SC2switcher.exe rather then SC2.exe: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/general/general-chat/40536-blizzard-devs-answering-custom-map-questions-on-the/#p8 |

With the new cutscene editor replacing the model viewer, I can't figure out how to do a few simple tasks that I used to do in the model viewer. I especially need to know how to view attachment point names (to go with locations) and how to view animations.

Wow, so much activity already! Regarding our role here on the forums:
Are you guys going to be passing out information about upcoming features or replying to questions that are essentially feature requests -- or are you going to reply only to questions about how the editor works? All of the above. I'll primarily be focusing on answering technical questions about the editor since that's where I'm most qualified. If you have feature requests, fun ideas for the editor, arcade suggestions, or anything else, we definitely want to hear it. When we have something exciting to share about the editor, we'll also post it here on the forums. The main goal is to allow all of you to have direct communication with those of us who work on the editor and arcade. |

Some tasks from the Previewer have been moved with the Cutscene Editor, but you should still be able to do everything you could previously do. To answer your question about attachments, follow these steps: 1. Select Render->Show Geometry->Show Attachments from the menu (hotkey A). 2. Select the model you want to inspect in the timeline tree on the bottom left. 3. Select Window->Model Data (hotkey Shift-D). This is the same pane that used to appear between the timeline and the library in the Previewer. 4. Now you can select the attachment points in the Model Data Window like before. I also just noticed a bug while writing this up that you cannot click on the attachment point in the viewport if the green triangle does not overlap with the model. As a workaround, spin your camera around so that the green triangle is in front of the model and it should work. I'll fix that. :) |
