Outbreak, Weird Strategy that works.

Okay this is really weird strategy, but i just did it and it works. (On brutal)
First thing you want is stim, Combat shields, and both medic upgrades (All others are optional. If you have the research for Bunker turrets get those too.) You start off by building four bunkers, two at both entrances, fill each with 2 rines and a firebat (Oh and you have to build two marines at the baracks.) during the day you mine like crazy, at night, you keep them mining except 4 scvs (Which will be repairing the bunkers from the onslaught. This whole time you have to be macroing as well to get units, Mass marines and medics are suggested, along with war pigs and devil dogs, a couple marauder mercs will also be a good idea.) The second night you must also survive, same startegy. Come the third day, you load your Command center and float it to the bottom right corner of the map, it will take some damage but you get it there safely. Along with that, you salavage your bunkers, grab your hellions (And a forth which you should have built, The SCV's that could not get into the Command center and start raging. During the night co to a cleared corner and defend your army. The biggest scare factor is around the seventh night you have them sending about 9 Abberations at your army, and by the ninth night you're fight off four at a time. Tenth night is 4 at a time constantly. So I started just running around avoiding the onslaught. My time is 1:08:11 but i did it. If you decided to instead do the first 3 nights at base, you might do slightly better and faster since your army will be larger. In the end it is up to you. But since the forth night is when they break through the south barricade. I suggest that forth day is the latest you leave. Thoughts? |

Although it does work, it's not very conventional. Such as:
Having to move your base. Taking over an hour to beat the mission. Having to set up your base again which means lost mining time, production of troops and redoing the addons. Question is, "Why should we have to move?" We can do the same strategy with the bunkers and firebats and all that only faster and in a more safe environment because you are bunkered down. |

Oh i don;t get back to mining. The cc is hidden in the corner away form danger. I was doing teh mission a dozen times and got tired of loosing my base, So i tried this for !@#$s and giggles na dit worked. True that it doe stake time to do the mission, but you get the mission done. (And for me that was a "%^-*ING FINALLY" moment.
No one has to do it my way nor am i telling people they should. Its just a way i managed to do it and I am a bronzie. So If people are having trouble playing on brutal much like I am, its an idea. I tried using Psystarcraft's walkthrough but he can micro and all. I am not at that skill. I mean the most micro i can do is stutterstep, if that is even microing. Also i said that possibly waiting till dawn of the forth day may in fact make it go quicker since you will have a larger army by that point. The only time you will ever have to mine again is if your troops run out. and if that does happen, restart is probably better. The other option is to do the Dig and get tanks. |

That sounds like it might be fun, but it mostly sounds like a really difficult way of doing a pretty simple mission.
Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Gkw4Mj642o&feature=plcp Fun, easy, what's not to love? |
oh really? found the level really difficult. my way worked. Although it did work for you, like I said, it's very unconventional. You said you don't mine when you move, lack of production, lack of buildings. You should have shaved off half the time just making reapers and medics. |

Block one choke completely with bunkers, don't allow the Infested to break through the south choke - they try only on the third night, never again -and you'll have a much easier time.
Reapers are super in this mission; excellent against Infested and buildings. Hellions are great against Infested, but not so much against building. This strategy is not difficult. If you're done, super, but for anyone trying to get it done, Reapers are the way to go. Watch the video if you have doubts. |

This map gets harder the longer you delay, so it becomes a lot easier if you clear out the top half of the map ASAP, grab the extra minerals, and then work your way south. Even on brutal you're not going to see too many abominations as long as you're speedy. Marines with shield and stim plus medics is all you really need during the day. Have them run back to base into bunkers and then make sure they don't get blown up.
And yes, this is one of the only maps reapers are useful in in the campaign (too bad, cuz they are super useful early game in multiplayer). |

All I did for this map was make a tech lab and reactor asap for the barracks while making probes to satuate and all that good stuff. And have one bunker on both entraces filled with marienes. Then have firebats finishing the wall off and 2 medics healing and one probe on each bunker. It takes 4 firebats to finish the wall off at each entrance. Once you get the factories I made a second one and add reacotors to both. My whole supply, besides defence, goes to hellions to get to each building asap and back to the base as close to daytime as possible and rewall the side your hellions entered/exited. I beat it in about that same time as the video that diamonddave linked to.
This works well as hellions have a good range to add dps from behind the wall and can be repaired at night in case damage was taken from broodlings or spinecrawlers. The bunker at the north east entrace was destroyed the last night and i had to remake a few fire bats, but mass hellions were more than enough to deal with the lack of a bunker with ease. This is the easiest way I thought of, which is easy to macro and micro. I'm not terran I underestimated reapers in this mission to be honest. |

I simply used the Firebats at the beginning to tank the infected, with the medics alongside them, no problems. I did that until i could get some Perdition turrets on both the starting paths, along with 1 or 2 bunkers to help teh turrets, scvs with the defenses at all times.
Once you get Siege Tanks on teh higher ground, it becomes retardedly easy, and yes that word is almost the best way to descirbe it. Ultimately all you need is 6 siege tanks on the high ground and a perdition turret on both paths. Once the third path opens up i use Nothing but Perdition turrets, with 1 bunker full with marines to help against infested marines (helps to have the bunker upgrade that increases attack range of garrisoned units). You can easily substitute the bunker for siege tanks, which can e built on high ground to the south of the third path (you can build a factory and land it on the high ground, then make a tech lab up there if you have no hercules, but you can only fit 2... which is all you need pretty much) Put two bunkers on each path instead of one, atleast two perdition turrets on each path, and you'll be able to survive until the cows come home. Or you run out of the 5000 minerals you could end up with at the end, but then you can just bunker up the other resource expansions, and you've killed 20 buildings and made it even easier. Ultimately... all you need to have is firebats tank until you can get siege tanks on every path and perdition turrets on the same ones. Bunkers i find are okay, but overkill. Using that strategy... You can survive for a VERY long time. I save and load my one game every time i start starcraft 2 and It shows no sign of getting worse after night 5, let alone 23. |
