[help] weapon problems

I am making an SC version of battleship and I am having some problems with making the main base fire a weapon at the enemy ships. I have a trigger which reveals a space on the enemy side of the battlefield, but even if a ship is revealed the weapon does not fire.

The unit is revealed for 10 seconds, and I have increased the weapon range to 200, so range shouldn't be the problem...

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Well I know you know about weapon arc; I saw you mention it in another thread. If I were you, I would give myself control of the building and try ordering it to attack in those ten seconds. You may get an enlightening error message, like "cannot target air units" (just an example, not a particularly probable one) or something. You may realize your building has no attack ability. Maybe it will attack when you tell it to, in which case you'll know you have a target aquisition problem, which might have something to do with alliances or scan filters, as a first couple thoughts.

If you get an unenlightening error message (e.g. "error"), I would probably try giving the same weapon to a standard unit in a standard context in a test map as a next attempt to narrow things down. Feel free to share any additional information you find if you don't know how to interpret it.

Thanks fed, that tip really helped, there were a few other things wrong with the weapons system but the weapon arc tip jump started solution after solution
