PvZ Openings...thoughts?

I've been reading the "ultimate pvz guide" on TL and It's been very eye opening. I am used to just using the FFE traditionally, however i've noticed when i get placed vs diamond zergs they tend to take advantage of the fact that the FFE doesn't pressure them much in the early game, and they cut all kinds of corners. I'm studying the Gateway expands and gate/core expands now, can anyone give me their thoughts on how to approach these openings, and how they worked out for you specifically?

I personally never go for gateway expands, as it always seems to me that zergs can double expand and still shut down early gateway pressure by just building a bunch of spines if they over-drone. The pressure delays your own expansion, plus they'll build some speedlings to hold of your attack and then can just harass your expansion forever.

This, of course, is just in my experience. I know master level players who always go for sentry expands/constant hallucination scouting and it seems to work out for them.

What I like more is going for multi-pronged warp prism harass off of a FFE, as it doesn't delay your expansion, gets you all the tech you need, and still hits early enough to punish those greedy zergs that go for a 12-minute hive.

The entire point of the early gate pressure is to hit them before the speed finishes. if you're pressuring them and they already have speed, then you're doing it too late. You mentioned the sentry expo, i used to do that about a year ago before i quit, it was the go-to FE build back then, people seem to think it's obsolete now because its overly safe and doesn't give you enough of an economic edge.

EDIT: I've also been noticing that in the VODs of the gate expands, most people are not blocking off their ramp! they just build the gate inside their main! Seems pointless and risky to me!

This is an example of the 2 gate expand build I do. I usually get a stargate as I push out with my pressure, and once my 4 phoenixes go out I take a third with a total of 4 gates.

This game is an all-in variation of my opening. Get hallucinate when you push out (I don't get hallucinate if I open stargate), if he doesn't have a spire yet you are safe to do this all-in, otherwise get blink and a third. I only attacked with 8 gates but it should be done with 10 I believe.

Gateway expand builds require a lot more APM and in-game transitioning without much of a baseline. You really need to be on the map the entire time that their Zerglings don't have speed, and kill queens (or at the very least force them to make Zerglings instead of Drones). Almost every time, you need to either follow that up with a quick 3rd and be prepared to defend for your life, or hit a 2-base gateway timing. Teching off a gateway expand is slow and awkward... you basically need to accept and be good with a heavy amount of gateway units in the midgame.
