some thoughts to time warp & envision
|
After the beta patch 11, the mothership core loses envision and gains time warp, which applies to mothership (losing vortex) too. And oracle gains envision by exchanging time warp with mothership core's envision. Here are some problems BLZ may have not considered in this change:
1) mothersiip becomes an expensive, valuable target (which it always is) and 8-supply unit in the late game, capable of doing nothing more than providing 2 times of recall, 4 times of time warp and passive cloaking field, at its best, while mothership core can do the same without costing so much crystal and gas, supply and building time, no to mention players have to protect it, and exchanging photon overcharge for passive cloaking field. So, in the end, why should a Protoss player upgrade mothership core to mothership? 2) By gaining envsion, oracle can do anti-cloaking work now, but protoss still have observer available. How many protoss players will build only VS units or only VS & BG units to do early attack and defense? It is the matter of choosing the better one when you have two options. In early game, protoss needs to deal with mainly underground units, which are widow mines and creep tumor. Why not use the observer instead of envisioning oracle? Surely, observer is easy to be killed but not without your rival paying something. Oracle, may not be designed for this kind of job. 3) The time warp ability is originally designed to replace entomb. It started doing OK in reducing mining efficiency. However, the other function becomes obviously powerful in PvT by controling the ground under the bio-tech terran units. It seems oracle is too strong in this match, therefore BLZ replace time warp with envision. What happen to the mining control? Isn't it the original function of oracle, for which it should perform the best in all units (pulsar beam is good but not good enough)? All in all, it is not very wise to maintain balance in this way. But, actual consequence will still be told by actual gaming and we will see about that. |
