Many players from the Southeast Asia region including Japan, Australia, and New Zealand are having difficulties logging in to the North American servers. Some have been able to log on after using an alternate DNS server.

DNS settings are specified in the TCP/IP Properties window for the selected network connection.

Example: Changing DNS server settings on Microsoft Windows 7

  • Go [to] the Control Panel.
  • Click Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Change adapter settings.
  • Select the connection for which you want to configure Google Public DNS. For example:
    • To change the settings for an Ethernet connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and click Properties.
    • To change the settings for a wireless connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and click Properties.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  • Select the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then click Properties.
  • Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window.
  • Click OK.
  • Select Use the following DNS server addresses. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server or Alternate DNS server, write them down for future reference.
  • Replace those addresses with the IP addresses of the Google DNS servers:
    • For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4.
    • For IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and/or 2001:4860:4860::8844

  • Restart the connection you selected [from above].

Some players are also reporting that these steps can help:

1) Resetting their network.
2) Flushing the DNS Cache.
3) Changing their password.

Please open a Command Window and type the commands below. To open a Command window, type this in the Start Menu search:
cmd
Then type in these commands, and post the results.

If you're using Windows 7, telnet is not installed by default, so you'll need to enter this command to install telnet:

the telnets did come back blank

the tracert depot ran at 20ms per line, while the tracert actual ran at ~220ms for the first 14 lines and then timed out for everything after that, getting progressively slower until the test finished at line 30.

I hope this helps. I was having the same problems as everyone else, not being able to play multiplayer, but made the mistake of trying to reinstall, and now I can't play at all.
Btw I changed the dns addresses and can now log back into the game, but still cannot play multiplayer.

An additional problem to this is once people actually fix their log in problem and get in to the NA server a lot of customs are unavailable and match history cannot be accessed properly.
Oh and I can't play campaign either, all I can do is login, but can't play anything once I am in.
after following the instructions in the first post i was able to fix it... i might add that i noticed that this problem started after my internet cut out last week if thats of any help to you
I and many others are able to login to NA but we are no longer able to download anything, e.g. match history, new melee maps, customs that have not been previously downloaded. After deleting my battle.net cache there are no also no buttons on the matchmaking screen and portraits do not show up.
+1 for being able to log in to NA but not being able to get match history info.

Works on SEA server though.

ok i take that back after trying o download the 1v1 maps (im new) i downloaded 4/9 then i start getting the download error again
I've tried the steps and I still have the same problem. Nothing seems to be working at all.
Anyways I hope these tests can help diagnose the problem.

Seemed to start after the semi-recent small patch. Only occurs on NA. SEA is fine. Had some serious lag issues after the same patch but they went away. Now, just this on NA.
I think the only temporary option right now is to get an updated Blizzard Entertainment folder from someone who doesn't have the error. A download is available on this thread if you want to give it a go for a temporary solution.

Ok now I can't log in again, it says it has trouble downloading content.
Yeah I can't get into some custom games or any quick matches. And it seems it hasn't been permanently fixed yet.
