Port Forwarding on a College Campus

I help run the Collegiate Starcraft 2 league for my college, and we can't connect w/ Starcraft 2 on campus. I double checked with our network administrators and all the correct ports are open, but their firewall blocks port forwarding. They've told me opening port forwarding would pose a significant security risk to the entire network.

Is there anyway to play SC2 online without going through the port forwarding? Obviously LAN play isn't an option. Though this might be somewhat unrelated, why would port forwarding pose a security risk?

I don't think forwarding ports is a requirement, AFAIK they just need to be open.
