Game Crashes (Kernal panic) during campaign

Hello,

I recently started playing SCII again after a break of a few months in preparation for HotS, and I've been having game crashes whenever I'm playing the campaign. What's very odd is that some of the time the game crashes, and some of the time it doesn't. So far I've had 4 crashes, 1 of them being in an earlier mission, but another being mission (9?) Cutthroat, the mission where it's a race to 6000 minerals to get the mercenaries. All 3 crashes have been when I collect the first set of salvageable materials, but the second time I tried, I went through the mission fine and completed it; the other two times I went back to it I've crashed both times.

I haven't played in a few months, and I downloaded HotS (crashes happened both before and after the download was 100% complete), but I don't think my comp specs are the problem:

You mentioned this was a a kernel panic. Do you have a kernel panic log to post? Most kernel panics aren't directly caused by the app itself, but an underlying issues that is triggered when the game gets to that function or issue.

Hello again,

Sorry for the late response, and thanks for your quick response; I do have a kernel panic log to post. *No idea if this information is relevant, but I'll give it just in case*
-Firefox was open for this last panic (and the log), was not open for any of the other crashes
-Skype was open and logged in for half, and at the login screen for the other half.

So, I see this:

As the last loded kext: com.mcafee.kext.Virex 1.1.0d1

Can you check if Mcafee is at the latest version? I checked the latest versions of Mcafee, and I found:
v11.0.678 (Security Centre);v15.0.302 (Virus Scan) / 2012-10-17

I don't know if this is true for the Mac version, but the site told me that at least.

Also: com.apple.driver.AppleUSBUHCI 5.2.5
The only thing I see is out of the ordinary for USB stuff I see are: USB Device: USB Receiver, 0x046d (Logitech Inc.), 0xc51b, 0xfa140000 / 6

What device is this? I don't see any Logitech drivers downloaded, so you may want to see about downloading the Logitech Control Center for Mac and see if it helps.

And finally:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff7f9dd6bb25): NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100: CFG 0xffffffff 0xffffffff 0xffffffff, BAR0 0xd2000000 0xffffff80bc726000 0x0a5480a2, D0, P3/4

This might mean memory is bad or failing :(

Couple of things I'd suggest:

The PRAM/NVRAM reset may help clear up some stuff. If your Apple Hardware Test comes back with any errors, you may want to take it to your local Apple Store.

Or better yet uninstall that Mcafee. 10.8.2 gots its own virus protection. It's rudimentary yet so aggressive that apple remotely blocks apps with know security flaws (flash, java), only to lift the block until the app makers fix the flaws.

My mouse. I doubt it's the problem cause I've been using the same mouse for years, and haven't had problems when I've used this mouse playing LoL, WoW, or SC.

If the last thing's the case, then I'm just confused why it started doing this stuff right when I started playing sc since I've been playing a lot of LoL for the past month o.O.

I'm going to do both things you suggested Machkan, and I will report back later; thanks again for the help and quick responses, I appreciate it.

So I've done both the PRAM reset and the Hardware Test, nothing seemed to be wrong with my Harddrive. That means out of everything else suggested, the only problem could be bad/failing memory. If that's the case, is there anything I can do besides buy new memory? Also, why would it cause kernel panics for specifically Starcraft, and not LoL?

Hey, I'm actually having a similar problem. Ever since I got the latest patch (2.0.4) I get Kernel panics a few minutes into multiplayer games. I've turned the settings down to the lowest possible. I'll try the PRAM and hareware tests.

Are you still having panics? SC2 might be using different resources on your Mac that LoL isn't, which is why you may have issues.

@CGNX - Can you post your kernel panic log?

Hello, sorry for not responding back at the 3/3 post, I had stopped getting kernel panics, and just recently starting getting them this week (though they don't happen nearly as frequently)

Couple things to point out:
-I recently upgraded from 4 GB RAM to 8 GB RAM
- This no longer happens in the campaign (at least it hasn't for me) and happens now in multiplayer matches

Here's my most recent kernel panic log:

-I recently upgraded from 4 GB RAM to 8 GB RAM

Was this just now, or before the kernel panics happened?

One was before, and another after.

EDIT: When I first made the kernel panic thread, I didn't have the new RAM, over the course of this week I've had 2 kernel panics, one panic was before I bought the RAM, and one (now two) after.
