StarCraft® II

Game keeps crashing

This started as soon as I installed Heart of the Swarm. It was slow at first. During the campaign it would crash every once in awhile. It got progressively more frequent, so I turned the graphics down to see if that would help. It was a very temporary fix. Now it crashes almost immediately. Can't play multiplayer either as it does the same thing there too.

I never get any error messages. The game just freezes, boots me back to the desktop where the SC2 cursor is still up, and I have to open the task manager to close it down. I also checked the game logs for any error messages, but there are none.

This computer is only a month old and worked perfectly for WoL on ultra settings. Specs posted below. If there was something I missed, please let me know. Thank you in advance for any help.

Have you tried AMD's latest or Beta drivers, ExpiredMilk?

It helped, but it wasn't a fix. I can play for longer periods of time now before it does the same freeze/crash

Any other possible solutions?

How are your temperatures in game? (Hit Ctrl + Alt + F, and they'll show up in the top left corner.)
Reply Quote
I cant hit Ctrl + Alt+ F in game because it freezes as soon as the game starts.

I was able to start a challenge mission, but it only showed FPS (400-500.) Lasted about 20 seconds before it froze.

I'd check the temperatures with hwmonitor or a similar utility.

Temperatures were perfectly fine

Unit preloader doesn't help at all either because the game crashes there too.

I'm getting the same problem, as soon as I load a mission and the opening cutscene starts, the game freezes and kicks me to the desktop. I was avoiding it by skipping intro cutscenes by pressing the ESC key as soon as the game loaded... but now it crashes so fast that the game is unplayable for me now... The first couple of missions worked just fine, this is more of a recent and progressively-getting-worse scenario. I hope a patch or a fix is found soon, this is all quite depressing.

I can't even make it to the login screen anymore.

I get the same problem, temps are fine, have all the updated drivers as of today.. So i dont know whats going on running GTX670m with 16gig ram and 3rd gen i7 laptop...

Having the same problem too - GeForce GTX 570 with newest drivers.
Reply Quote
same problem. only happens when i play anything else than campaign. really annoying

Hello all,

Mine is doing almost the same thing. It kicks me out to the desktop but it doesn't really crash. I can tab back into the game or open it back up and its exactly where I was at in the game. I'm assuming im not getting the full crash sequence that some people are getting but I have the graphics on med/low. I played it on WOL on ultra is there a known issue with NVIDIA drivers or is this just across the board with every known video card.

I played the the first couple days with no problem at all, but the game started to crash. It crashed so many time that windows 7 wouldn't start anymore.

I formated my SDD, updated windows, got the latest graphic card driver, installed the game, and BAM, still the same problem....Im bout to format C: again... -.-

This didnt happen with WoL tho =/

Hi everyone, I finally found the solution !
Go into control panel, under uninstall choose SCII. Then go play Counterstrike on Steam.
Solved a lot of my psychological problems SCII was giving me lately.
Reply Quote
Ok I had the same problem. I seemed to have fixed this by unchecking "set to busy when in game."

Not sure if this will help anyone else but it seems to be working for me.
