The fact he didn't just use the artifact to kill the entire zerg invasion force was insulting.

Though powerful, the Artifact wouldn't do a planet wide sweep I don't believe. There are plot holes however. That being the Artifact isn't fully explained. Was it damaged lowering it's field of effectiveness even further? Would it only be deadly to the QoB at close range? (Which would be why Mengsk would have waited for her to enter his office.)

It wouldn't. Blizzard cut it out from the original WoL dialogue, but in the ORIGINAL WoL dialogue, Valerian explained to Raynor that the artifact's range is only a few thousand feet, so in order to deinfest Kerrigan, it would have to be placed VERY close to her when it goes off.

Well, when you remember that Mensk made the Psi-destroyer to take out the zerg, Kerrigan just sent Dehaka in to power down the psi-destroyer. This made mengsk think "Oh Sht, Kerrigan has a way to bypass all of our anti-zerg defense systems!" and so he decided to wait until he would be guaranteed to kill Kerrigan with the artifact without any chance of failure.

But he didn't count on Jim forgiving Kerrigan. He knew that Raynor said he would kill Kerrigan for what she had done to Fenix, and he thought that Raynor would leave Kerrigan to die should he have the chance.

That was something he underestimated the whole time since SC1. For all those years, he underestimated the bond between them.

I don't see why people can't just accept that since he already had the energy to revive Amon, Narud likely didn't tell Mengsk how to properly power it since the artifact could be used against the zerg after Amon retook the swarm.

With Mengsk, he was just far too narrowminded, and that makes him a perfect pawn in the bigger game...
