How was the campaign?

Well I don't have HotS but I wanted to ask how was the campaign, and should I get HotS just for the campaign? I loved the WoL campaign and found it fascinating I am really wondering whats gunna to happen next (Although Wikipedia really ruined it for me) I still want to play it. So what do you guys think?

Step up from WoL, and the gameplay is still fun, but the story is still pretty bad.

SPOILERS

---
---
---

-Needless retcon to the Zerg's origins,

-Kerrigan gaining power from a spawning pool plot-device

-Mengsk being a strawman villain,

-Terrible execution splitting Raynor and Kerrigan up,

-Nova being a pointless cameo (Tosh as well),

-WoL's "choices" amounting to nothing in the long run other then a difference in a line of dialogue,

-Kerrigan's humanity/sociopath swings; one moment she cares about lives, the next shes murdering everyone in sight.

-Kal'dir arc being a pointless slaughter against innocent Protoss,

-Matt fighting Mira Han in a space battle for no logical reason,

-HotS turning WoL's Rebellion arc into irrelevant filler,

And that's just a glimpse of HotS's problems.

You should probably put a spoilers tag on your post retlo.

The campaign isnt as good as WoL's, but it is still worth playing, especially if you want to play LotV =). Some story elements that will appear in LotV wont have as much impact if you didnt play HotS.

The campaign is noticeably easier. Many people have theories for why.

Totally it's not bad, but IMO WOL campaign is better than HOTS campaign.

Actually, HOTS campaign is too easy to clear.

I do question why some people have this viewpoint. I honestly don't see it.

If it's because of difficulty, WoLs so called "Brutal" mode wasn't anything special either. Aside from In Utter Darkness and All-In, nothing felt like they were even on the level of "Hard" difficulty except perhaps Engine of Destruction due to being forced to rush your production throughout the whole level. And a lot of people seem to struggle with Supernova, but that can be easily bypassed by simply cheesing the structure housing the artifact or by just waiting it out for the firewave to destroy everything and again, cheese the structure at the last second.

And as for the story, Hanson, Tosh and Matt's arcs are all pointless filler, the main artifact storyline is repetitively bland (seriously, you go to some random planet, grab artifact, and leave 5 freaking times. The only minor differences is that the first artifact was being dug up by the Dominion and that the final artifact was on a Tal'darim spaceship...again...MINOR), and the Prophecy arc is complete bs. Char was honestly the only "ok" arc...although I did like the Rebellion arc before HotS made it all for naught. -_-

Aside from In Utter Darkness

Actually isn't that hard with mass collosi until second nydus, mass carrier/voids after.

and All-In,

Seems to me like All-In air is easier than All-in ground, just because all the air attack is just more troops for you, allowing easy elimination of kerrigan (artifact pulse to weaken and kill her hydra escort) the only mission I haven't done because I optimized for ground, ground is hard.

No indication of this, especially since Mengsk did spin it like everything else, with his announcement of Raynor's and Kerrigan's death

Can't expect a minor terran character to play a major role in a zerg campaign.

Sorta like back when Kerrigan was a write-in character, completely absent from toss campaign in SC1 iirc. (blizzcast episode 2 according to wikipedia's article on Kerrigan, wiki says Metzen originally planned her for just one mission, and expanding her role so much was a later decision)

All-In Air can be eazy mode with Hive Mind Emulator, enough micro can get a zerg army of 70+ mutas and 20+ Brood Lords.

As for All-In Ground...just siege tanks...and a couple banshees to roam around and snipe the Nydus Worms that pop up.

Ya...All-In I didn't find that hard.

I wrote this awhile ago that sums up my main beef regarding this.

The rebellion after Media Blitz affected nothing in HotS. You even return to the planet the revolt took place and nothing looks out of the ordinary for having started a revolution there in the previous game. All that build up to starting a revolt on Korhal became pointless.

Hell, I might as well not of even done the Rebellion arc if it means I'm just going to be giving the Odin I previously stole back to Mengsk on a silver platter with no repercussions to show for it.

All I'm asking for here was continuation, and I clearly didn't get it after seeing that it was still "bright and sunny" on Korhal despite starting up a revolution there. Even if Mengsk had calmed the revolution down between WoL and HotS, there still should of been some after-effects seen. Like some of the soldiers refusing to fight for Mengsk when the Zerg are invading Korhal or something along the line.

Again, Rebellion arc is made pointless because of this.
