Bi-Weekly Update (8/27/2013)

I think that an update thread is a good idea. Weekly seems too soon so I'm going to try for a bi-weekly update.

I got sc2reader v0.6.0 out the door and had to make a hasty bug fix patch for 0.6.1 the next day. I'll be pushing out another small v0.6.2 bug fix patch for python3 users tonight.

I started a new sc2bnet[1] project for interfacing with the Web API. It is mostly functional and partially documented[2] but still needs some work before I'm ready to release it. Once it is stable I'll be adding methods to sc2reader that load player profiles and ladders from replays.

I forked the official Blizzard docs and opened up the github wiki[3] for public edits. Anyone looking to contribute to the documentation can add info to the wiki and I'll work it into the docs. I'll also accept pull requests on my fork so that we have a place to collaborate that isn't held up by Blizzard response times.

Busy couple weeks for me.
1 - Started working on a PHP implementation of the WEB API, currently have two methods, one which will find the ladder for the players that where passed in (connecting replays to ladders). And the second method is just grabbing the ladder information for a player and a ladder idea. Will release the source later this week.

2 - Parsing Changes to Sc2ReplayStats.com using the S2Protocol, i had some problems with Terran units and also migrated over to using the S2Protocol Ability's, And a few dozen small behind the scenes changes :)

3 - Worked on some basic logic to "guess" if the replay was ranked or unranked using the WEB API and ladder data. So far results are looking good, but i still need to do some more validation and tweaking for false positives. Sadly the only way that it works is if the users upload ALL their replays, and they have to be uploaded rather quickly.

4- Crippled my replay parsing time......

Thanks for kicking off this thread, ShadesOfGray!

It's been light for me recently because I actually have been having a lot of forearm pain, so I'm trying to rest more in the evenings and weekends. There have been a few bug fixes, but most of my efforts have been directed towards outreach. I have

  • setup a twitter account (see the TL thread; I figure I shouldn't be advertising so blatantly here
  • came up with some interesting statistics I'll be sharing in the near future

Looking at the last update, I actually did get all of those abilities into spawningtool, so you can see avg # of storms per game on the website

On the horizon for me is more complex tags. I think it'll add a tremendous amount of richness to some pretty sparse hand-labeled data right now.
