Mothership

A short story by

Brian T. Kindregan

The zerg would be in soon. They tore at the door, the walls, the ceiling. Erekul could feel the other high templar, his brothers and sisters, fighting and dying. Buying him precious seconds. He closed his eyes; the Khala pulsed within. The collective thoughts and feelings of his people were filled with chaos, terror, and pain.

The zerg had control of Erekul’s beloved homeworld of Aiur. The invaders likely thought themselves ascendant; they did not know that the fight was far from over. Erekul moved through the dark chamber to the console, his hands bathed in its soft blue glow. He entered the codes with serene grace. Behind him the door began to shudder.

At the edge of protoss-known space, the signal was received and noted. Crystals long dormant began to glow; energy wells irised open. Power flowed.

Erekul turned as the door finally crumpled. Two high templar, already dead, flew across the room and slid down the far wall. A mass of brown and grey flesh poured in: small, fast-moving zerglings – all spittle and mouth. Next came hydralisks, larger creatures bristling with spines and fury. Erekul’s eyes glowed icy blue, and he bowed his head, gathering his psionic energy. They came at him, a furious whirlwind of hate. He threw his arms wide, opening the floodgates. The zerg writhed, their bodies breaking and tearing. More poured through the door, choking it with their numbers. Erekul brought his psionic energy to bear on the largest of the slavering hydralisks, tearing its brain apart. More zerg spilled into the room, crawling over the quivering hydralisk, snarling. They moved to surround him. Erekul was spent – there would not be another psionic storm. With a mental scream of rage and pride, he threw himself at the zerg, tearing at them with his hands. Teeth and spines pierced his flesh, zerglings and hydralisks poured over him until he was gone.

Most people have probably figured this out, but for clarification:
Not all in game mechanics match actual canon story points.
I say this for all the people that think that this mothership sounds overpowered compared to the in-game unit. I think the motherships in the SC universe are supposed to be as powerful as described above. Huge, with firepower and defense capabilities able to take on thousands of zerg. But, for obvious in-game multiplayer balance reasons, the mothership cannot have a million HP…& “one-hit-ur-dead-lulz” purifier beams, etc.
Personally, I would like to see it be stronger that it currently is in the game, and therefore cost more Min & gas, longer build time…etc. to balance multiplayer. I certainly understand protoss players willingness to trade it’s current version for the arbiter from SC1.

That was an awesome story, and no, Legacy of the Void prolly won't come out for 20 years, Heart of the Swarm will take at least 10 more cause these Blizzard people are such perfectionists....:\

@RDJ: Another late reply to write. The mothership is horridly weak, and get's destroyed very, very soon by a few corruptors and/or mutalisk swarms.

No pitiful Protoss creation will stop the evolution of our Broods, the vast diversity of our species, the never-ending changes that we make in order to adapt.

@Tardor: A final late reply to write. Protoss rule? Don't make me laugh. Your psionic storms fail to work as soon as the Roaches are birthed, your archons fall to the same fate, and your large amounts of firepower melt deliciously to banelings or concentrated fire.

Please blizzard make the mothership more powerful! give it 100 extra max and starting energy and then bring back planet cracker and some other strong ability. Then make it more expensive and make it take like 20 supply to keep balance.

The world is Shakuras. Poor protoss, go there only to get manipulated and anhilated again. Just...wow. I'm so happy! Go terrans! Die protoss, we can handle the zerg with the artifact and Kerrigan is safe! What now!? We don't need you anymore! You have outlived your usefulness! Have I gone too far?

@Boomy:

The Protoss were the Firstborn, we are of the Xel'Naga.

What are you, simple Terran?

We have sent scouts back to your homeworld, from what we found, we have derived you are descendants of primates. Yet you dare question our intellect, our prowess in battle, our strength, our morality?

Look on us and tremble with fear, for we are gifts upon you. Our weapons are advanced, our technology is sound, our reason is just.

We are the Protoss. We are the Firstborn.

We are of the Xel'Naga and we are to be reckoned with.

You may be the first born of the Protoss and Zerg, but we were born before you ever came on this fekking rock you call a sector! Oh, and I have a question? How do you reproduce? Psionic reproduction?

i love and hate mother ships for a few resons
-even if i control the mother ship purifers donot cloack them but mother ships do
-I need to use corruters and morfo them into brood lords when i am done
-these vessles cloack cloacked units so when my ghosts, banches and other units run out of energy it looks like cloaking is no energy
