Battlecruiser

These massive, heavily armored combat ships are virtual flying fortresses, built to keep the peace and dominate the space lanes of the Koprulu sector. Bristling laser batteries and thick neosteel armor make these imposing vessels some of the most powerful in Terran space. As such, many commanders use Battlecruisers as their headquarters during extended campaigns. Research has led to the development of alternative weapon and defense upgrades, including the dreaded Yamato Cannon.

Flight Manual

  • Capital ship that can attack air and ground targets.
  • This vessel can absorb and dish out large amounts of punishment. Use it to draw enemy fire while your ground troops move in for the kill, or to break into well-defended islands.
  • Use their Yamato Cannon to take out enemy defensive structures or key targets, and clear a path for your smaller units. Six Battlecruisers armed with this weapon can take out a command structure in one shot.
  • Follow them with SCVs set to auto-repair to increase their longevity.
  • Their movement speed is slow, so be sure to either protect them well or field so many that the enemy has no chance of stopping them.
  • When attacking ground units, if terrain allows, position your Battlecruisers above obstacles or cliffs to deny the enemy the chance to retaliate.

Fusion Core Upgrades

  • Weapon Refit: Enables Battlecruisers to use the Yamato Cannon.
  • Behemoth Reactor: Increases the starting energy of Battlecruisers by 25.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Get a sizable force of Vikings and focus fire. Watch out for the enemy’s own anti-air units or ground support.
  • Engage with a very large force of Stimpacked Marines with Medivac support. Focus fire is crucial.
VS Zerg
  • Attack with a large number of Corruptors and focus fire the cruisers.
  • Spawn Hydralisks and research the Grooved Spines upgrade. Try to fight them in the open.
VS Protoss
  • Engage Battlecruisers with Void Rays.
  • Surround the vessels with a very large force of Stalkers with Blink.
  • Use the High Templar Feedback ability to drain energy from a Battlecruiser and deal damage at the same time.

I wish they would change the animation so the machine guns shoot air, and laser batteries hit ground like on the cenimatics.

Won my first 250 1v1 matchs with BCs. Of course building 5 plantery fortress for defence for first 27 minutes. It takes 27 minutes to get 33 upgrats and have the capability to build 12 battle cruiser at once so you enemy become surpirised. If you build them 1 by 1 they can prepare for them.

Terran in general has to get better stuff. I mean Protoss and Zerg got all these buffs and new unit, mean while in terran... 2 new units just isnt going to cut it

@Tassadar: Well we protoss got a new harasser (oracle), which was VERY necessary because protoss harassment was virtually inexistent in WoL, a caster/rush punisher (mother core) and a long-range shooter. Terran got the widow mine for effective terrain control and devastating drops if enemy has no detection (and is cheap as hell), got an upgrade for the already strong hellions that blazes thru infantry, and no longer require to tech-up siege mode for tanks. I think they got a decent share of the cake as well.

I'd like a really really powerful BC in addition to the normal one. A one man army. But its super pricey, like a 1000 mins and 500 gas and takes like 5 minutes to build. So you have to plan if you want to build up an army or wait for the BC. Could add for an interesting dynamic.

@DangerousBob: Perhaps something like the gorgon from the campaign, but maybe give it more range, and 2000 hp, but no yamato cannon, which could be replaced with cluster rockets.

Does anyone know if you can order multiple BC's in a group to use the YC at once? Every time I use them (which was admittedly in the campaign) to fire the YC's a a target, I seem to have to always do it 1 BC at a time very rapidly.

@TriAQuadC: Actually they removed that in SC II; in SC I all units able used the skill at the same time upon order, which made it so you had to select each unit individually or waste a crapload of energy. It's much more convenient to be able to use one skill at a time, and as it's been said, just spam the hotkey + click, it's not hard.

@Thunderwing: Because games need to be balanced. Would you rather the SC:BW style attack where you get 50 damage per shot, but still get the same dpsecond output? It costs 6 supply. 6 supply of marines will get owned by a BC. 12 supply of marines with Combat Shield will be a very close match.

Also, marines are better than storm troopers. Marines are 1.5x the size of a man, not 1x.

@AuruZ: Well DT's have literally 9 times the attack power of marines. And if they could not 1-shot them, it would be harder to find use for them unless it is to save gas when massing Archons.

I wish they had some sort of Orbital Bombardment option for directly below ground targets, maybe something automatic that you just fly the Battle Cruiser over top or something so you may continue focus firing :)

Anyone know why the BC's second ability was removed anyway? Before release, it was said that people would be able to choose between the Yamato Cannon as the ability and a missile barrage ability like what can be unlocked in the campaign.

@Thunderwing: Nearly all air units are off. It stinks, right? In the campaign, Raynor's base is a battlecruiser. It has a cantina, lab, armory, ect. Ingame, it looks comfortable enough for a couple squatting people.

auctually if BCs have they yamato cannon upgrade they can 2 shot carriars, BCs are the stongest unit in game and if you let them get in big numbers it is EXTREMELY hard to deal with them, just try and not let your opponent get to money because alone they are powerful but not Great

@MJshorty: But still (they suck). Vikings can be quickly built up (reactored) and due to kiteing only yamoto will hit them. Blink stalkers with feedback also kills this unit. corupters also outright kills it and due to the lack of speed the battlecrusiers can be a burden since they cannot retreat nor can they quickly pull back. They don't pay for themselves too (about the cost of a mothership)

@MappyTinfoil: Thats why I use them against terrans in TVT when they don't have air yet or they got banshees if they transition into vikings then i unleash my 3-3 marines on them why'll they deal with the cruisers proplemo solved
