StarCraft® II

The savage Gashyrr Wasps of Eldersthine were initially inducted into the Swarm to serve as resource gatherers. Over time they became Drones, engineered with the Larvae’s ability to break down their own genetic code. Drones can transform themselves into rudimentary Zerg structures. A mutating Drone needs creep to provide nourishment and biomass to support its new form. Like Larvae, Drones are controlled by the Overlords, who monitor their progress through a type of instinctive telepathy. Drones are single-minded about their tasks, diligently working even in the face of raging combat and the possible destruction of the Hive.

SPECIMEN ANALYSIS

The Drone’s pincers are a minor evolution of the Larvae’s mandibles, which grants them the ability to clamp and transport objects. The osseous tissue hardens through the pupation cycle, and its density allows the Drones to cut mineral crystals with ease, or defend themselves in a pinch.
The Gashyrr Wasps were savage flying insects that lived in nests throughout planet Eldersthine. After being assimilated by the Swarm, Drones lost the ability to fly and are now relegated to hovering. Their wings and legs became fleshy, webbed membranes that keep them steady while in motion. Dedicated analysis has revealed that the aforementioned membrane is capable of expanding rapidly with a proper source of nourishment—creep, for example.
The worker caste of the Gashyrr Wasps possessed glands that secreted a substance—codenamed compound B-5801—resilient enough to last for years, which made them astounding, if slow, builders. Our latest research shows evidence of genetic trimming and manipulation, which preserved compound B-5801 and exponentially increased nest construction rates, but turned the Drones themselves into the foundation of all colony structures.
This peculiar organ emits a low-frequency energy field that disrupts gravity around the Drone. The creature then “swims” through the air by undulating its body and using some of the excess energy as a means of propulsion.

General Strategy

  • Worker unit.
  • Transforms itself into Zerg structures, and is consumed in the process.
  • Can transform into more advanced structures as the Hatchery is upgraded.
  • Able to gather minerals and vespene gas.
  • Can attack for minimal damage.
  • Can burrow with the Burrow upgrade, allowing them to observe or obstruct potential expansions or hide themselves on the map in preparation for future building.
  • Regenerate their health after being damaged, unlike Protoss Probes.

Evolutions

  • Burrow: Allows the unit to take cover underground, rendering it unable to attack. A burrowed unit is invisible unless revealed by detectors or effects.
