Ghost

Born with incredible psionic potential, these individuals are recruited, quarantined, and put into training by the government from childhood. Ghosts learn to channel their psionic energies to augment their natural physical strength and endurance. They are rightly feared for their preternatural sniping ability with the C-10 Canister Rifle and their advanced stealth maneuvering. Ghosts can be equipped with psionically powered Personal Cloaking devices that allow them to become virtually undetectable by enemies without specialized sensory equipment.

Field Manual

  • Special ops unit that can attack both air and ground targets.
  • Can eliminate biological targets using high-caliber Sniper rounds.
  • Their EMP rounds allow them to wipe energy reserves from enemy units, or deal damage to protoss shields. If you hit cloaked units with these, they will be revealed for a few seconds.
  • Authorized to call in nuclear strikes.
  • Use them to support your troops in battle, create diversions, or take out key units/structures.
  • Can go inside bunkers for protection and a range increase.

Ghost Academy Upgrades

  • Personnel Cloaking: Allows Ghosts to become invisible.
  • Moebius Reactor: Increases the starting energy of Ghosts by 25.
  • Arm Silo With Nuke: Builds a tactical nuclear missile.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Build Missile Turrets and deploy Siege Tanks in key positions around your base. Remember to add your Orbital Command to a control group to have fast access to its Scanner Sweep ability.
  • Shoot an EMP round at the area where you suspect the enemy Ghost is hiding. If you can see him, send some Sniper rounds his way.
  • Use high-damage units to kill them quickly.
VS Zerg
  • Create a few Overseers or build Spore Crawlers in key spots around your base.
  • Spawn an Infestor and use its Fungal Growth ability on the area where you suspect the Ghost is. This will make him visible. If you can see him, Neural Parasite also does the trick.
  • Use high-damage units to kill them quickly.
  • Bring multiple Overseers to deal with cloaked ghosts, as they can easily snipe down one or two Overseers.
VS Protoss
  • Get Observers or build Photon Cannons around your base.
  • Have your High Templar cast a Psi Storm on the area where you suspect the Ghost is spotting the nuke calldown. If you can see him, use Feedback.
  • Use the Phoenix Graviton Beam to lift the Ghost and cancel the nuke calldown.

These aren't bad to get early game against a protoss looking to stalker rush you like in silver and bronze league, sometimes gold. However if you mix like four of these into your MM army with siege tank support and stealth (it is expensive, but worth it to get stealth and the extra energy) you can easy take out a protoss army looking to beat you with high temps with two sniper rounds still. Which when stealthed they can get around in the battle. Die easy, but hey if they take out the 5 high temps that are looking to get position for storms on my marines and marauders, its fine by me.

If you're just playing for fun, making like twenty-four ghosts and running around killing everything is fun as hell. It creates a rapid-fire sniper effects that just destroys.

@SaintConvict: They are good against zerg too. Snipe can focus down muta's, hydras, or infestors really quickly.

@SaintConvict: I couldn't disagree more. Ghosts are pretty much the most important anti-Protoss unit for Terran thanks to EMP Shot. Snipe can be useful against High Templar and Archons as well, but EMP Shot is what's really important.

Sure, if they don't go for Templar/Archon composition and instead go heavy on Colossi, Ghosts are less effective than if you go heavy on Tanks and Vikings, but Ghosts aren't meant to perfectly counter Protoss, and they're far from "pretty much useless"

Ghosts are useful, for precision and minute detail jobs, never use a ghost for any assaults, only once in online have I used a ghost, that was to nuke a hole in defenses- I digress, point is, tasks that are simple and need one click to do, use a ghost, anything else, don't even

@leif: Both have their uses, but we can't really say which would be better. Ghosts in the campaign are different from Ghosts in the multiplayer. Spectres were more useful against Armored/Massive enemies (dealt bonus damage to armored units, can stun groups of enemies, and then there's Psionic Lash), whereas Ghosts were better against Light enemies and casters (They didn't have EMP, but they still had Snipe, and dealt bonus damage to Light). I always preferred Spectres, since Ghosts didn't get EMP.

Ghosts in multiplayer are specifically effective against Protoss and casters in general, due to the EMP round depleting shields and energy - and now due to Snipe specifically doing bonus damage to Psionic, they're even more effective against HTs than before. (Note - against Zerg, they are still great counters to Vipers and Infestors, though not much else)

I think if Spectres made it into multiplayer somehow, the abilities would be tweaked so that they could be an anti-Zerg alternative to Ghosts. I couldn't see them belonging in multiplayer for any other purpose.

and had some sort of timed mine attack and a grappling hook to climb up and down like a Ghost in the cinematics would.

I really think if they made all ghost abilities (except snipe) researchable abilities with low cost, but long time wait it could keep the old 45 snipe and large radius emp. Maybe also a sight and range boost like ghosts in campaign

@Morbic: too many upgrades for 1 unit. The upgrades in the campaign is just to give you an edge since most missions you are being overrunned.
