Nydus Worm

The Nydus Worm is an evolution of the Zerg Nydus Canal, a subterranean organic structure that interlinked areas covered by creep. Nydus Worms live inside a nest-like structure called the Nydus Network. A Nydus Worm can travel from the Network to any nearby location before emerging, in the process creating a tunnel beneath the battlefield. This huge creature is capable of stretching itself out to prodigious lengths to support the tunnel with its own skin and ribs. Zerg warriors can enter the tunnel via either the Worm’s head or the Nydus Network, and they can travel through the Worm at great speed due to a combination of peristaltic motion and chemical stimulants that direct their movements. Nydus Worms pose a grave threat to areas previously thought to be secure.

They are nice transports, just get an overseer in their base and pop up out of their back

@Crazyperson: make two or 3 networks and use those to make multiple worms at a time (the possibilities with this are endless- faster unloading at enemy base, still be able to make worms when one is destroyed...)

Whenever I click on this unit it always shows the boring overlord portrait - and I get that this is a structure. But honestly Blizzard, in the beta you had that cool portrait with the teeth and all. Please change the portrait. :(

we should give a bit of that combination of peristaltic motion and chemical stimulants to hydralisk outside the nydus worm... like some kind of stimpack?

Soooooooooooooooooooooooo much more useful than nydus canals...And why would you make so many zerglings? I mean seriously, if they have lots of siege tanks your screwed. Plus you wouldn't be able to even mobilize them very well. but that is an interesting strategy.

The nydus networks carrying capacity is not unlimitted, i once had 200 supply worth in zerglings while playing a special match with a friend, and i couldnt fit them all in at once.

Nydus worms are to cheap and OP. At least raise the cost sometime. If you watch a lot of replays the zerg always wins with nydus worms.

I like to send a queen through the nydus first and build 8 creep colonies ASAP. In the mean time I usually get 10-20 zerglings out before retaliatory action arrives, so then when they kill my mini army, the creep is already spreading all into their base. Great for spying, great to slow down their own tech, makes them utilize gas for detection units, and generally pisses them off. An angry SC player is an illogical one, that makes them easier to kill. Much easier against toss as Terran have that damn comsat to ruin all my fun :(

Sadly the Nydus Worm has been a HUGE disappointment for me. Slow to load, slow to unload AND like stated it makes to much noise when it erupts from the ground. At least with a Nydus Canal I could be sneaky about it. Now I have "RAWR!!!" Oh noes! A Nydus worm! Killz it!" While I'm sitting there "Come on, come on! Unload damnit!" A horde of gunfire later, one dead worm AND my units haven't finished unloading. GIVE ME MY NYDUS CANALS BACK!!!!

@Lucifer: just make another nydus network. Its still gonna be sneaky. Also with a dead worm, and your units haven't finished unloading, the units that failed to completely unload die.

@mowlord: I often employ 2-3 worms at a time, makes it nearly unstoppable to kill all three before they morph in, and then I can unload 3 times as fast. Plus I love the roar, its a great intimidation tactic. If you just nydus elsewhere on the board, to connect your bases, the roar alone will start freaking out the enemy and keep slightly more on the defensive

@Loomis: also the worm's roar can serve as an intimidation tactic, and if they see ultras trying to unload then they might just gg (if theyre a noob or cant counter them yet)

Great combo for playing against defensive players is to get a changling in there base and get it to an isolated area in their base (undeveloped area) then bringing the nidus network in and lettin out your surpris

I find these work wonders vs protoss !@#$%^s that try to just cannon up and go void rays or something retarded. In fact when i am playing vs a toss !*%!#-bait, i send my overlord immediately to a spot in their base they will most likely not use. All of my resources go into getting the nydus asap and making a formidable army to get the nexus. This strategy has worked over and over again for me vs protoss techers. Terran do nothing but mass marines and siege tanks, so I wouldn't recommend trying it vs them. You may also notice that there are many maps that are designed for such trickery, so scouting those benign lips in the bases to see if there's nothing there can't hurt right?
