Sentry

Sentries are combat drones that are equipped with force field generators and holo-projectors. These deadly automatons are used to bolster the dwindling numbers of the protoss race, and to manipulate the outcome of major battles. Sentries can deploy massive guardian shields that protect friendly units, and reduce the damage they take from ranged attacks. They can also project force field barriers to stall or split up opposing forces. Sentries also have the ability to create hallucinatory images that can draw enemy fire while a real protoss strike force maneuvers into position to deliver the killing blow.

General Strategy

  • Light support unit that can attack both air and ground targets.
  • Excellent unit to complement your Zealots and Stalkers.
  • Can project a Guardian Shield that reduces incoming ranged damage.
  • Able to deploy a Force Field that blocks movement. This is very effective to block choke points and separate enemy troops.
  • Can be warped into the Battlefield by means of a Warp Gate.
  • Hallucinate fast units to scout the map quickly or use hallucination to trick your opponent into thinking you have more or different units then expected.

Upgrades

  • Hallucination: Allows Sentries to create illusory copies of other units. The copies cannot deal damage and die more easily.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Reapers make short work of Sentries; be careful of their Force Fields however.
  • Use the Siege Tanks’ range to pick them off from a distance.
  • Have a Ghost fire an EMP round at them to drain their energy.
VS Zerg
  • Spawn Roaches and use the burrow move upgrade to sneak under the force fields and unburrow on top of Sentries.
  • Surround them with Zerglings that have the Metabolic Boost upgrade.
  • Use Hydralisks to attack from range.
  • Use Ultralisks to break through forcefields and allow your army to attack the Sentries.
VS Protoss
  • Use Stalkers and focus fire. Sentries are not particularly hardy.
  • Researching the Blink ability for your Stalkers will give you a tactical advantage over Sentries’ Force Fields.
  • Zealots can kill them quickly, but getting to them can be tricky. Researching Charge helps.

BTW, mass sentries with max weapons and shields after gong double fore is actually very good. A sentry has about the same DPS as a stalker, and are very good as combat units once upgraded.

Sentries may be one of the most useful units in sc2. not only can they use forcefield to drastically turn the scales in battle but the can also use guardian shield and hallucination. 2 extremely useful skills.

Today I made 14 Hallucination Collossi after my ally gave up and I was Terren the enemy laughed at me but I had the last laugh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I swamped them with 50 marines, 15 marauders, 14 sentrys, and 10 stalkers. Death to my enemies HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Also i rather prefere hallucination in big scale battle cuz 20 sentries full energy = 40 collosus. IDK why people prefere force field over hallucination. For example I figured out how to break a turtling terran siege line using Immortal hallucination, even though they are hallucination their *passive* ability harden shield still works =D. Plus hallucination take double damage, so here is math of siege tank vs Hallucination Immortal
Siege tank - damage output 50vs armored x 2 cause Hallucination
Hallucination Immortal - since they take double damage their harden shield will reduce the siege tank's attack from 100 to 20, and i find it really helpful to break siege lines using them =D

sentrys arent really for battle. make a few force feilds and send them back to the base. i lost 20 in a 1v1. i eve sent 20 zealot and 50 stalkers with them!!!!!!
