Units

Thor

The Thor project has been shrouded in mystery since its inception. Agents of the Umojan Protectorate were the first to investigate the Dominion’s new terror weapon. Images from this investigation showed a huge bipedal war machine armed with a dorsal artillery battery that wouldn’t be out of place on a battleship. Most disturbing of all was the discovery that this monster could be built rapidly from the ground up by a standard Factory.

Driver’s Handbook

  • Massive armored unit that can attack both air and ground targets.
  • Its main cannons deal heavy damage to all land-based units and structures, while its missile launchers keep enemy air forces at bay, especially Mutalisks.
  • Very vulnerable without support.
  • Slow-moving and costly to produce. Combine with SCVs for field repairs, and Medivacs to ferry them quickly across the battlefield.
  • Equipped with powerful 250mm strike cannons that incapacitate the target and deal 500 points of damage over the course of 6 seconds. This weapon can be fired against ground units and structures (best used against enemy Thors, Ultralisks, or Colossi).

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Tanks in Siege Mode with infantry support are a great way to eliminate Thors and their escort.
  • Cloaked Banshees allow you to attack on your terms; try to catch the enemy on the move and beware of Scanner Sweeps.
  • Assemble a large force of Marauders and focus fire. Works best if you research Stimpacks and build a few Medivacs.
  • Use Battlecruisers, and especially their Yamato Cannon, against Thors.
VS Zerg
  • For the most part, large groups of smaller units work better against Thors. Try to attack from different directions simultaneously and don’t forget to focus fire.
  • Use Zerglings to support your Roaches or Hydralisks. Be sure to research Metabolic Boost, Tunneling Claws, and Grooved Spines.
  • Infestors can take over a Thor using neural parasite, turning the tide of battle in your favor.
VS Protoss
  • Immortals excel against Thors due to their Hardened Shields and high damage against armored targets.
  • Employ a large force of Zealots and Dark Templars to surround them. Be sure to have the Charge upgrade for your Zealots and to designate a Thor as your target. If you use attack move, your units will charge the escorts.
  • Void rays work well against Thors.

Their cannons are an upgrade? those Cannons are on its back for a reason. it should be able to fire them without buying the upgrade. and eaither the upgrade gives it the stun, or not have the upgrade at all. like I said. those cannons are not just for show.

@TyberZann: cept then they'd be OP, thats why they are an upgrade now
Login to rate
@Bobthetomato: 250mm is not OP. they suck. pros barley use thors and when they do they cheese or get the 250mm to spam energy on rocks so high templars can't feedback them.

I think the thor 250mm strike canon should have a range of 10 for anti defense ( mostly siege tanks ). That would be cool
right?

@NinjaNoob: but unfare! then you wouldn't stand a chance unless the enemy had mass marauders.
but if bliz were to do that, then they would have to take out their Javelin Missile Launchers.then they would be fare

@ThePraetor: ya, thor are basicly anti muta right now. But 250mm still should out range photon cannon.

Thos are actually surprisingly damn good against light units such as zealots and marines.... and actually void rays are not super great against them, especially when they are clumped. if using void rays, do NOT clump them! Stimmed marauders are awesome against thors. HT (feedback), carriers, and brood lords are awesome anti-thor units that are not mentioned :/ ... Does anyone have any idea about how powerful the new Warhounds are, compared to these Thors?

@MrGoomba: The warhounds are like small thors that do more damage vs mech units. And they are geting the thor's AA AOE missiles. I would guess they have 250- 350 HP and a 25 +10 vs mech ground attack.
Just my guess...

Lets just go back to Beta Starcraft 2, it was SOOOOOOO much better, if you do that and just keep the void ray nerfs then the game would be perfect

@Fellix: 5 beta roaches can kill a infinet number of marines.
beta roach = 2 armor, fast rgen no burrow, even faster regen on creep. stephano will be happy...

Just want to point something out... one immortal can beat one thor so maybe it's op against other thingss but counters like an immortal can destroy this thing easy.

As soon as I see my opponent turtle his base and mass produce thors, I expand to three to four bases and I mass produce battlecruisers for the easy win!

@ThePraetor: I didn't even think about it. Mass Marauders are good, but I still need to account for siege tanks and Missle Turrets that is very common with turtle bases! If that is the case, why not split half Battlecruisers to take out Siege Tanks and half Marauders to infiltrate the turtle base once the tanks go down?

@surfgoose: if they turtle just get a lot of tanks in siege outside their base and support with missle turrets and bunkers. confine him. patrol vikings to prevent cc from flying out. then mass end game tech and expand like crazy... once everything's in the bag build 8 ghost academy's... XD

@HecticPrime: they are not OP, this game was meant to be balanced. if the thor is limited to just one, then the terrans won't have a unit equal to the zerg ultralisk or the protoss colossus: a massive, armored unit that does splash damage and destroys smaller units
