General Strategy
- Armored craft that can attack air and ground targets.
- Highly effective against armored units.
- Vulnerable against large numbers of enemy units.
- Void Ray sneak attacks against enemy headquarters can be devastating.
- Use the Prismatic Alignment ability against armored units to deal extra damage to them.
Countermeasures
VS Terran
- Launch Vikings; their long air-to-air range will make it easy to bring Void Rays down.
- Use large groups of Marines with Stimpacks and Medivac support.
- Build Missile Turrets around your Command Center as a temporary deterrent.
VS Zerg
- Spawn Mutalisks; be sure to focus fire.
- Assemble a large number of Hydralisks.
- Build Spore Crawlers around your Hatchery as a temporary deterrent.
VS Protoss
- Engage with Stalkers. Research the Blink ability in order to move away when Prismatic Alignment is activated. Engage again while the ability cools down.
- Phoenixes are great against Void Rays, which are too slow to outrun them.
- Build Photon Cannons around your Nexus as a temporary deterrent.

I love massing void rays, and pwning the enemy
i would prefer increasing their attack range (say +2) rather than their damage output.
They are countered.
I once played a custom game 2v2 as Protoss. I had a Zerg ally and both of our enemies were Protoss if I remember correctly. The settings allowed 300 max supply and I think the Void Rays had been set to an extra psi requirement, but I still massed them until I reached max psi. In the late-game, I was scouting a point in the last remaining enemy's base for my Zerg ally to spawn a Nydus Worm, but things got too hairy when I got much closer (which is what I prepared for by scouting with all of my Void Rays BTW) and the enemy Protoss has a large army and due to the settings, I think he had plenty of Photon Cannons placed.
In the end, I had a much smaller group of Void Rays left when the battle was over, but I sealed my duo's victory in what was ultimately another Mass Void Ray landslide. And I am actually still a beginner at this whole game. It just goes to show that when fighting Protoss, it is best to attack quickly in case they may be massing Void Rays. I stand by what I learned from the user I know in person taught me that I mentioned some comments below: Nothing can stop a fleet of Buku Void Rays. (For any and all readers who may not be familiar with the word "buku", it means "A LOT")
It only seems to work in ffa and 4v4 though, sometimes in 1v1 or 2v2
Just so I could make sure that I saw both sides of the story and wasn't incredibly biased, I even used a mass void ray build and found the same thing when I used them. I beat a very hard level in 15 minutes with the ray where with zerg and terran, it always takes multiple unit compositions. I didn't bother to take on the elite because I would rather get it with my go to race and take the harder route but I dare say it is possible. If I mass anything on the other races, the overall result is laughable. Looking back at the replay, I also found that my friends macro and micro were lower than mine and they hadn't focus fired quite as well as I had. If they had, I wouldn't have won. I didn't go counting them but I want to say that i had 40 3/3 corruptors and they had 33 3/3/2 VRs so it was about even. I'm honestly not complaining about them too much because the comments about mass void rays are true. If your opponent can pull this off against you, you deserve to get squished at least on zerg from my experience. I deserved the times that I lost to them because I didn't have the right build. My complaint about them being the go to unit now for the protoss still stands.
