General Strategy
- Armored craft that can attack air and ground targets.
- Highly effective against armored units.
- Vulnerable against large numbers of enemy units.
- Void Ray sneak attacks against enemy headquarters can be devastating.
- Use the Prismatic Alignment ability against armored units to deal extra damage to them.
Countermeasures
VS Terran
- Launch Vikings; their long air-to-air range will make it easy to bring Void Rays down.
- Use large groups of Marines with Stimpacks and Medivac support.
- Build Missile Turrets around your Command Center as a temporary deterrent.
VS Zerg
- Spawn Mutalisks; be sure to focus fire.
- Assemble a large number of Hydralisks.
- Build Spore Crawlers around your Hatchery as a temporary deterrent.
VS Protoss
- Engage with Stalkers. Research the Blink ability in order to move away when Prismatic Alignment is activated. Engage again while the ability cools down.
- Phoenixes are great against Void Rays, which are too slow to outrun them.
- Build Photon Cannons around your Nexus as a temporary deterrent.

Protoss in our long battles vs The OP terrans and the angry swarm with have forgot to arm ourselfs vs the greatest cheese of all time. The VOID RAY. Just last week i was in a FFA with some friends and my scouts spoted a mighty fleet of Void Rays about 30 mins before they came for me. I prepared the following stalkers, senties, phx and and a few VOIDs of my own. my troops were max upgraded and i had senval holos to beef up numbers and yet... The unupgraded voids won. Fellow protoss we have nothing that truly counters VOID RAYS!!!!!
And please, respect that : Massing ANY unit (rines, stalks, Voids, mutas, etc ) is just for people who can't play, same for rushes, i'll give you an example :
1 immortal and 3 stalkers (no upgrades anywhere) = 625 mins, 250 gas, you can beat up to 8 stalkers which means 1000 mins and 400 gas, just do some counters
"The Void Ray is built around the newly developed prismatic core, which serves as a virtually eternal power source."
If that is true, then why can't they use the prismatic core in EVERYTHING? I mean, it would be so cool, never having power outages, or having an unit run out of energy.
As Tharcas said, it is possible to counter it. There are many ways
As Zerg:
-Use Hydralisks. Attack them, and when you see they have fully charged their beams, just burrow and let them rage
-Mutalisks Are just as effective, maybe even more with the bounce attack. However, retreat when they are fully charged
As Protoss
-Stalkers. Blink away when they charge
-Use the Aid of Sentrie's Guardian Shield
-I would include phoenixs, but they arent as good, as they do little damage, and are fragile. However, microing them you can put some serious pain in the voids
As Terran.... Vikings, no further explanation needed.
However, the most efficient way to counter 30 VR is far simplier... Beat your opponent before it happens. Scout him, and if you see he is going for Heavy Rays, just prepare yourself, and attack him before he can build up his army
If that is true, then why can't they use the prismatic core in EVERYTHING? I mean, it would be so cool, never having power outages.
