Zealot

For more than a thousand years, the Protoss of the Templar caste have defended their people, dedicating their long lives to the pursuit of martial perfection. Zealots are peerless warriors who have yet to ascend to the uppermost ranks of the Khala. Ever eager for advancement, they train for decades in hand-to-hand combat, tactics, pain tolerance, and martial discipline. Their formidable physiques are further enhanced by cybernetic implants and power suits. Zealots use their substantial psionic abilities to create blades of pure energy that serve as their primary melee weapons.

General Strategy

  • Light infantry unit that can attack ground targets.
  • This is the first military unit that Protoss can build; all you need is a Gateway.
  • Tough and hard-hitting, but expensive compared to other tier 1 units such as Marines.
  • Powerful combatants, their weakness is the time it takes them to reach their target. Susceptible to kiting as well.
  • Researching Charge will allow your Zealots to instantly close the gap to their target.
  • Can be warped into the battlefield quickly by means of a Warp Gate.
  • Increase their survivability to ranged attacks by having a Sentry with Guardian Shield.

Upgrades

  • Charge: Allows Zealots to automatically intercept nearby enemies, and is a passive increase to their movement speed.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Reapers are very effective against Zealots due to their speed and damage.
  • Hellions excel against Zealots after you research the Infernal Pre-Igniter upgrade.
  • A mix of Marines and Marauders should do the job, but do not fight in the open.
VS Zerg
  • Roaches are a great counter to Zealots, especially if you research the movement speed upgrade.
  • Spawn an Infestor or two and cast Fungal Growth on the Zealots and use ranged units such as Hydralisks to pick them off.
VS Protoss
  • Build a force of Stalkers and kite the enemy Zealots.
  • Summon a few Sentries and fight the enemy at a spot where you could easily separate his troops with a well- placed force field.
  • Construct a few Colossi.

i think that zealots should be a little stronger, and have some new weapons.I cool idea in LOTV would is that zealots could fight without weapons (hand-to-hand combat idea).

I know.... balancing and what not..... but in books and movies these are units that could slaughter endless lines of zerg.
Granted 3/3/3 chargelots are strong as hell, but it just kills me seeing 2 marines do the circle dance with a helpless zealot chasing.

@DrMurloc: I know right! I imagine Zealots slashing through tons of Zerglings and Hydralisks before finally falling after a bloody rampage through the Swarm's ranks.

In movie zealot seem can kill hundred of zergling by himself, while marine can only scream like %%!*#@%#! when seeing one at the corner. They suck in multiplayer without charge.

Zealots are nice early units, and with upgrades, especially Charge, they can take most basic ground units down. Even without Charge, their high combined HP lets them get to a target and finish it before they die. (Not including use of terrain or focus firing)

It should have a range of 2. I mean, swords have longer range than biting thing, but shorter range than guns in real life, so... Also, this way it might not get owned by 2 Marines with only one upgrade (decide which).

@Thunderwing: 2 marines with no upgrades can kill 1 zealot. Of course micro is required. If zealots have 2 range than that will cause some imbalance since in order to make the psi blades to reach that far splash will also have to be put in. (blades are not projectiles and will hit all units in range.)

@Thunderwing: Its so easy to stab a psi blade into 2 units at once. Plus zealots are already very good. They do 16 damage and have a total hp/shield of 150. With charge they are quite deadly.

Overly expensive and less than effective at pretty much every point in the game. Their long build time, high cost, and relatively mediocre attack power makes them poor at harassment, their lack of any sort of range makes them sitting ducks against any decent defense, and their only ability, while at least functional, arrives too late to justify making them in any large number. Overall, an atrocious unit. Only good thing about them is that Changelings take their form, so if I ever see one in my color, I zap it on sight.

@TheSlacker: Wooow. Talk about not knowing how to use Protoss. Dude. It's called a rush. You get about 4 gateways early game, rush for a twilight council and charge. Most wouldn't have air units before they knew what hit them. Zealots destroy like nobody's business in large numbers. Get about 20-40 and their dead. Soooo dead. I know, I've done it many times. Also, to solve long build time there are 2 obvious solutions: WARP GATE and CHRONO BOOST. Two of the most important things for Protoss. Figure out some strategies before you go knocking some awesome units.

@TheSlacker:
The zealot acts as one of the best meatshields in the game. Stalkers are fragile so when you have Collosi and Immortals in your army composition, the army will fall relatively easily. Plus, using Zealots as a cover for Dark Templars will allow you to pick off frontline units without the enemy's notice...

I want to find DPS for the units without having to build them and write it down in-game.
